SHEEEEEEEEEESH what phenomenal news for anyone with any ties to the New York Jets to receive late this morning.

The preseason should be outlawed, or at least every team should take a page out of the Rams' playbook and just straight-up not play their starters. No need to risk anyone vital to your regular-season success in such a low-stakes environment. Yet here we were Friday night as Zach Wilson crumbled to the turf with a non-contact knee injury.

Typically when it's non-contact, you assume the worst. Torn ACL, MCL, something very bad. The only solace anyone could take was that Wilson's reaction wasn't one of devastation. More stoic and austere than anything else. Turns out, there was no need for serious alarm, although Wilson's status for Week 1's home opener against the Ravens is at least in question. As the report says, he'll seek a second opinion just to make sure. Speaking of Baltimore, ask them about the preseason and injuries. They saw their No. 1 running back JK Dobbins blow out his knee in last year's finale.

As much of a relief as it is to hear that a supreme talent like Wilson won't have his second season ripped away from him, the former No. 2 overall pick will need to be locked and loaded to face Baltimore's loaded secondary if the Jets are meant to have any chance of winning their opener. Unfortunately, he'll be rehabbing as much as possible just to get healthy for that showdown.

Even if you're not a Jets fan, I think I speak for most football purists when I say I'm seriously intrigued by Wilson's potential. Thank goodness he's (relatively) OK after Friday's scare!
