Clean Broken: Who I Am Rooting For At Rough N Rowdy
I would not be employed at Barstool if Kirk Minihane was never born. I'd be doing something like selling fireplaces in New Hampshire. Now I get paid to write and talk about movies or baseball or whatever I want. I was a fan of his podcast and he allowed me to go into the studio every week for a year. Then he got me the spot at Barstool Idol which led me to getting hired here. Kirk may not like me now but I owe the guy an awful lot.
I also wouldn't have this job if it wasn't for the Minifans. They've supported my projects in my past and are so much fun to hang out with. I feel like they might not have a great reputation here by some at HQ but they are among the most generous people you'll ever meet. It's been said I "turned my back on the Minifans" and I don't think that's fair. It's certainly never been my intention. I defended them on the Yak and will continue to defend them. I'm a Minifan.
Yesterday, Jeff D Lowe who is either an elaborate puppet master or perhaps just Satan himself, announced The Dozen team I'm on yesterday which also happens to be the same team recent Kirk Minihane Show guest Alex Bennett is on.
Kirk was not pleased at this announcement.
Kirk is the smartest person I've ever met but he's shocked Alex was "using the Minifans"? No shit. I have to imagine she'd agree with that. She was selling Rough 'N Rowdy and using the audience to sell the product. He knew this when he promised the Minifans five days of shows a week (as opposed to the typical three) in exchange for hitting the 70K benchmark of RNR buys.
I heard rumors for a couple of weeks but I didn't officially know I was on a team with Alex until Tuesday morning. I don't think Alex knew she was doing anything wrong because she was on a team with me. You can say she should have done more research about the people she's on a Dozen team with but I believe she had no idea it would upset Kirk. On Monday's episode, Kirk did ask her who was on her trivia team and she did pause. But I think it's more that Jeff asked us to keep that quiet while they released the teams. Also, the three of us on the team didn't 100% know we were on the same team until Jeff created the group chat and told us. Once again, that was on early Tuesday.
My issue with Alex was the second she realized Kirk was pissed, her first instinct was to abandon the team.
So on one hand, a man I truly admire who gave me my career also hates me and recently said he'd bring my dead father's skull to my own funeral when I die. On the other hand, I have someone who literally made a trade request after being on the same team as me for literally 45 minutes.
I'm sure I'm going to get shit for breaking the "clean break" rule that was established after this happened. Well, apparently it was in place before that but I didn't get the hint.
The way I see it, the "clean break" rule got broken when Kirk was upset someone was on a trivia team with me. Dave Portnoy went on KMS today and agreed. Even Kirk said on the show that I'd be a pussy if I didn't write something. He's right. I thought about writing something about this yesterday but I didn't have a chance to listen to KMS until last night. Also, as I've proven with my Texas Poop Hold 'Em idea on Barstool Idol, I have tremendous instincts when it comes to content and timing.
I'll be rooting for Alex to beat Cupcake at Rough 'N Rowdy. She's my teammate now (even if she doesn't want to be) and we'll need to work together to do well on the show. I'm sure I'll get shit for being disloyal myself but Kirk is literally rooting for another fighter because Alex is on a team with me.
It kind of sucks to have someone you respect so much to want nothing to do you but Kirk Minihane doesn't owe me dick. He can hate me until the end of time and he still will have helped me professionally more than anyone else ever has in my life. It might be overkill when he brings my father's remains to my funeral but at least my family will be able to see Dad again.
