At Least A Dozen People Showed Up To The World Juniors Today In Edmonton. Maybe Even Two Dozen!

Listen. Hey. I get it. There are plenty of excuses. It's a rescheduled tournament. It's August. It's the middle of the day on a Tuesday for the Czechs vs Slovakia.

But this is Edmonton we're talking about here. This is Canada. Hockey is supposed to be the biggest thing in the world to them. This is their version of March Madness. In fact, this might even be their version of the Super Bowl considering it's not like a Canadian team is going to win the Stanley Cup. The World Juniors to Canada is college football to the south. And there might be 20 people who showed up for the opening puck drop.

Yikes. I'm starting to think that Canada might not be a hockey country after all.

By the way, I totally agree that there is zero buzz heading into this tournament. It's almost impossible to get up for it. I'm glad some of these kids are getting the chance to play in the World Juniors who would have missed their opportunity to in December, but that's about it. Unless Team USA just goes out there and destroys everybody on their way to winning back-to-back golds. If that's the case then this tournament kicks ass again. Any other result and I'm officially declaring this a Mickey Mouse World Juniors.
