Good News: The First 12,500 Fans At The Guardians Game On September 3rd Will Receive A FREE Franmil Reyes Bobblehead! Bad News: Franmil Reyes Was Just Claimed Off Waivers By The Cubs!

Over the weekend the Guardians announced they were DFA'ing Franmil Reyes, a guy who hit 37 bombs in 2019 and had 30 bombs and 85 RBIs in 2021. When you look at his numbers you get it, he was optioned to Triple-A last week after .213 with 9 homers and 104 strikeouts in 263 ABs. Pretty bad stats for a guy who used to have some big power numbers. On Monday he was claimed off waivers by the Cubs and he'll slide right into Chicago's 40-man roster. It's not a big deal, right? Guys get DFA'd all the time. The only hangup for Cleveland is that they included Reyes in their bobblehead promo, 12,500 little mini Franimals will be given out on September 3rd in Cleveland and he isn't even on the team anymore! Talk about a sunken cost, giving out bobbleheads of a player that isn't on your team anymore, tough look.

This happened with the Orioles and Kevin Gausman back in 2018, they had a bobblehead giveaway shortly after the All-Star break which happened to be when the Orioles sold their entire team, including Gausman. So there I was, sitting in Camden Yards with a handful of Gausman GOT bobbles and he was a member of the Braves. Talk about awkward. Cleveland is known for being notoriously cheap, so you know this hurt them when they tried to pass him through waivers and he was claimed so now they have thousands of bobbleheads of a guy who isn't on their team anymore. You have to give them away, I'm pretty sure you can't return 12,500 bobbleheads just because he stunk. Do the Guardians do like a "buy a drink get a bobblehead for free" move? They are really in a pickle now, I just home Franmil got his hands on some before they sent him packing.
