Longtime Oklahoma Coach Cale Gundy Resigns After Reading 'Shameful and Hurtful' Word Aloud From Player's iPad

We're still 19 days away from college football kicking off, but the craziness that constantly envelops the sport is in full-swing. Oklahoma receivers coach Cale Gundy resigned late Sunday night after 23 seasons at his alma mater, saying in a statement he read a "shameful and hurtful" word aloud from a player's iPad.

Former Oklahoma and NFL offensive lineman Gabe Ikard said he spoke to several current players who said the "vast majority" of the team wanted Gundy to remain in his position on the coaching staff before he ultimately chose to resign.

It's certainly a stunning situation to have unfold in the middle of fall camp, just weeks before the season starts. In addition to losing a guy who has been at OU for decades, the Sooners will probably take a recruiting hit with Gundy's departure, as well. He's been the primary recruiter for many of Oklahoma's most recognizable names this century.

Oklahoma plays its first game in just 26 days, but will have to do so without a coach who has been on its sideline for as long as many fans can remember.
