The Nationals Are Now Looking To Trade Juan Soto After He Rejected Their $440 Million Offer
HOLY FUCKING SHIT!!! On June 1st, Nats GM Mike Rizzo told the world he was not trading Juan Soto. Flash forward six weeks later and the Nats are very much listening to trade offers on their superstar outfielder. That will happen when the player rejects a FOUR HUNDRED AND FORTY MILLION DOLLAR DEAL. That would have made Soto the highest paid player in baseball history and the man said I don't care.
Soto, 23, rejected a 15-year, $440 million offer, sources said. The proposal, the Nationals’ third in recent months, did not include any deferred money, a departure from the team’s usual practice.
Bonkers. Does a deal come to fruition in the next two weeks? What the fuck would it take? The entire farm is the answer. Is it worth it? No question about it. Just 23 years old and has already done this in 5 seasons? Take everything.
It's so absurd to say no to $440 million. I would leave my family in the dust and become a trained hit man for that money. That's enough money to literally make me do anything. The man was offered it to play baseball and said no thanks. Now granted that AAV is $29 million which does seem low for the type of player he is, but still that's a fuck ton of money to say no to.
Is he really seeking $500 million or is this just the tax he set on the Nats because well..they're the Nats. Was there a number that Soto would have signed for? If they got that AAV up to $35 mil per does that change things? For a guy who has won a World Series already, I'd bet part of it is he's tired of the terrible teams that have been assembled since in DC. They flushed $245 million right down the drain with Strasburg in what may go down as the worst contract in baseball history. With that money tied up it's been tough for them to even think about surrounding him with good players.
One thing that immediately comes to mind here as a Yankees fan is how this impacts Aaron Judge. Obviously the two sides did not come to an agreement before the season as his upcoming free agency looms ahead. Aaron Judge is 30 and Soto is 23. Wouldn't you rather go nuts for the superstar who is seven years younger? They're not gonna do it, but the Yankees have the top prospects to make this happen if they opened up the entire war chest. Whoever gets Soto is going to give up a historic haul and every top prospect will be on the table. If you trade for Soto now you still have him under control for this year and two more after. His trade value quite literally could not be higher considering age, talents, and team control. Crazy.
