[Source] - The 6-foot-8, 210-pound power forward committed to the Tar Heels on April 27th, choosing Hubert Davis and Co. over Duke, Auburn, Georgetown, UMass, the G-League, and South Carolina.
Prior to Jackson’s commitment to UNC, the South Carolina Gamecocks were the favored destination for the country’s top prospect. That was until their men’s head basketball coach, Frank Martin was fired. Once again, South Carolina is the perceived favorite to now land Jackson, according to the Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM). On3’s Jamie Shaw has placed a prediction in favor of the Gamecocks with a 95% confidence level.
Let's set the stage a little bit here. GG Jackson is currently the No. 1 recruit in the class of 2023. However, the rumor out there is he wants to reclassify so he can be eligible for next year's draft. Happens all the time. He originally committed to UNC and then decommitted last night, a rumor that floated around for a couple of weeks before coming official.
Now everyone is assuming he's going to South Carolina. But, this tweet from Frank Martin has UMass fans getting a bit of hope:
Honestly I love it because this tweet is likely about something small. But Frank Martin has a relationship with GG Jackson. UMass was a finalist before he originally committed to UNC. Frank Martin somehow flipping GG Jackson from South Carolina to go to UMass would be fucking hilarious.
South Carolina fans were split on Frank Martin leaving the program and even more split on Lamont Paris. But if Paris can land the No. 1 recruit at South Carolina, he'll win everyone over. Again, this is the *likely* outcome here. Just don't bother Armando Bacot.
