Dog Walk Draft Grades: Best Sounds Draft

This week's Dog Walk Draft was pretty open; the best sounds draft. No specific restrictions or categories, just pick five of the best sounds your brain can think of. With that said, let's get into the grades:

WARNING: Spoilers Below

Team 1: B-

Crack of the Bat is a great pick at 1.1, especially for a baseball fan like I’ve heard Tiko Texas describe him as. As not a baseball guy, I still think this is an awesome sound and worthy of the top spot. The HBO intro at the back of the 2nd round is elite.

Everyone whether it be The Wire, The Sopranos, Game of Thrones, or a ton of others has loved hearing this on Sunday night because it was about to be a perfect ending to your weekend. This could have been a 1st rounder. WAP is an interesting pick in the 3rd. The Macoronin & Cheese part threw me for a loop, but I can see the appeal overall. Bubble wrap I like popping, but the sound necessarily doesn’t do it for me. This draft is starting to get away from me. The Crackle of a Record Player is very unique. In the 5th round I don’t hate it, but in the omissions there were better ones. Even if the Drafter went the light saber sound like they suggested, I think that would’ve been a much stronger pick.

Team 2: A-

Thunderstorms is a solid pick at 2nd overall and some people even like using those sound effects to use in the background as they sleep. The roar of the home crowd on a buzzer beater is also tremendous. Some of my favorite roars would be: Two of my favorites are the Larry Johnson 4-point play (shoutout KFC for mentioning that one immediately) and the Kris Jenkins/Villanova game winner in the NCAA Championship. A clean dap is an incredible selection in the 3rd and on multiple drafters boards. Great value there.

A roulette ball spinning is also elite. Roulette is such a fast game and that noise of the ball clanking around hopefully your number is enough to have your heart skip a beat. The fact that the NFL Draft jingle got almost vetoed here where the Drafter went with a much worse pick makes this an A- for me. It would have been an A+ and historic level draft had it not been re-done.

Team 3: B+

Hitting the post is a cool sound and definitely draftable, but 1st round is shocking. I think this drafter may have overplayed their hand with another hockey guy lurking. The orgasm sound was well described and the feeling associated with it is top notch. So while it may not play on the graphic, I like this pick in Round 2. Crack of a beer after a hard day of work is great too and means it’s time to let loose. Silence is an interesting pick. As a Father of 2 I cherish silence at dinner as it means my kids are eating, so I like this pick. The First Note of Welcome to the Black Parade (G Chord) is very unique and I can picture it instantly. Nice niche pick in the 5th.

Team 4: B-

Ball hitting the mitt is an interesting 1st Rounder considering that another baseball sound went 1st overall. It's not a bad pick, but don't love the value of the 2nd best baseball pick of the round. The steak sizzling is interesting and brought up a fascinating discussion about fajitas. As a guy who cooks steaks fairly often I do enjoy the sizzle on the pan is a great sound, but there is a long wait until it's actually ready to eat. You gotta let the steak rest to re-absorb the juices, so that takes a bit of the sizzle (no pun intended) away from this pick for me. Ocean Waves is a great pick in Round 3 and in my mind has 1st Round value. Pop of a jar is a meh pick for me, but we're in the 4th Round, so I can live with it. A boat engine starting is pretty cool because it's about to be a good day. This draft was all over the place for me, but it wasn't the worst.

Team 5 (left off the poll): D+

Speaking of the worst…Team 5 had a strong start with campfire crackling is a great call at 5th overall. Golf putt signals to me he is mainly a mini-golfer. I feel like you don’t as much hear it on regular golf holes. And I obviously am qualified to make a call on that after this bomb I dropped last week.

This Draft really goes off the rails here, if the putt in a tin cup wasn't bad enough in Round 2. Rainforest Cafe immediately comes to mind and kind of is the dollar store version of the Thunderstorms 1st rounder. Then we've got a cat purring which was called out in real-time as one that will lose the Draft. I wouldn't go that far as it was already on that pace, but it definitely sealed the deal. Then a ping of a drive is a solid pick in the last round IF he hadn't already taken a golf sound in the 2nd Round. Just a horrific draft strategy from this notorious wild card.
