The NHL coaching carousel has gone round and round once again this year with some big names coming off the board already. However, the biggest name in coaching free agency Barry Trotz decided to take some time away from hockey as predicted first on Spittin' Chiclets.
Barry Trotz to Time-out From Hockey
Coaching at the NHL level for a long time can take a serious toll on you physically and mentally. When he was not signed right away and then saw other teams signing coaches you knew wanted Trotz I was pretty confident he wasn't going anywhere.
John Tortorella to Philadelphia Flyers
Torts is headed to Philly to change the culture and some would say Biz and Whit predicted this one.
Also, Biz has already predicted the Flyers get into playoffs this year!!!
Paul Maurice to Florida Panthers
The Chiclets Pod stayed hot when our buddy Shoresy predicted this a few days before the news dropped!
Bruce Cassidy to Vegas Golden Knights
Surprise firing from Boston but landed in the desert right away, team will be better but it's definitely not a job you ever feel secure in.
Peter Deboer to Dallas Stars
I was surprised by this hiring even though he has had successful teams in the past because I see Dallas in rebuild mode and that's not exactly his strength.
Luke Richardson to Chicago Blackhawks
Love seeing a new guy get a chance and I've only heard great things about him. The Hawks are in rebuild mode and he will help them become relevant quicker than most.
Okay, folks were down to the final three vacant Head Coaching positions in the NHL, Boston, Detroit, and Winnipeg. Here are the EBR Top 3 candidates for each spot!
David Quinn - Former New York Ranger Head Coach and as a former Boston University Head Coach he knows the city well.
Jim Montgomery - Current St. Louis Blues Assistant Coach and former Dallas stars Head Coach would be a home run for the Bs with his elite hockey mind and energy level he brings everyday.
Nate Leaman - Head Coach of Providence College has shown at stops in Union, Providence and the Team USA World Junior team that he knows how to win and develop talent.
Detroit Red Wings:
Sergei Fedorov - Current Head Coach of CSKA Moscow (KHL) and. Red Wings legend would be a move off the board and would really energize the Detroit fan base.
Derek Lalonde - Current Assistant Coach for Tampa Bay Lightning knows how Yzerman wants to run things and obviously what it takes to win. Jeff Halpern could be listed here for the same reasons.
Rick Tocchet - Former Head Coach of the Arizona Coyotes is now a TNT analyst and best friend of Paul Bissonnette.
Jim Montgomery - Listed twice in this blog because of how strong of a candidate he is to take a team to the next level while developing young talent. How do you not hire a guy that wore a white Cooper bubble cage while winning a National Title for Maine.
Nolan Pratt - Current Assistant Coach Colorado Avalanche fresh off a Stanley Cup win, has enough experience now to run his own show.
Ryan Warsofsky - Current Head Coach of the Calder Cup-winning Chicago Wolves would be a great hire.
I'm thinking these three jobs will be filled up by the end of the weekend so good luck to all the candidates and to the GM's trying to find the right guy for the job!
