Billy Horschel Closed The Door On The Memorial Tournament With An Eagle Bomb on 15

Whewww! What a bomb at an opportune time for Billy Ho!

Billy came into Sunday with a commanding 5 shot lead after shooting a bogey free 65 on Saturday. His play on Thursday and Friday was solid too, shooting 70 and 68 and only recording one bogey in the process. That’s a helluva accomplishment at a place with gnarly rough and nasty greens like Muirfield Village.

Sunday he wasn’t playing poorly, but he hadn’t quite kept the same form he had the first 3 days. 2 bogeys and only one circle through 14 holes had allowed Aaron Wise to close the gap a couple of times to 2 strokes, and the closing 3 holes are as tough as any here. You gotta make your money on the par 5 15th at this course, and Billy Ho did exactly that to stretch his lead to 4 and essentially shut the door on the tournament.

Billy’s really carved out a niche as a guy who wins some big time tournaments, albeit not majors. He had that memorable run in 2014 where he won the final 2 events of the playoffs to take the FedEx Cup, he nabbed the Match Play last year, and now he’s got the Memorial for his 7th career PGA Tour win. So that’s four of seven that are pretty big time W’s.

Of course, Billy got the obligatory handshake and chit chat with Jack.

Alpha shit to call Jack Nicklaus “big man”.

Should be an interesting couple weeks in golf as the Tour heads to Canada and goes up against the LIV Golf opener and then we’ve got the US Open after that. Gonna be spicy to see who shows up for that and how the USGA handles
