The Preview For This Red Wings/Avalanche Documentary On ESPN (!) Is Fucking Incredible

Our boy Bucci decided to nonchanlantly drop this A-bomb of a trailer into the Twittersphere on a casual Friday afternoon without warning or regard for humanity...

Holy shit Bucc, I just woke up ate my lunch and you're gonna hit me with Jenna Jameson-level hockey porn? A two-hour, top notch-looking doc about the fiercest rivalry that the sporting world has seen in (at least) 30 years? New interviews with the chief participants? That fucking gasp-inducing jaw-dropper at the end? Christ almighty does this look fan-fucking-tastic and props to whoever made that incredible trailer.

In my sports fandom life, other than the Cs/Bs/Sox/Pats winning it, there's not much I cherish more than those actual, genuine "Where were you when..." moments, particularly involving teams you generally don't give a shit about because then it's even more impressive. A one-legged Kirk Gibson's shocking homer in Game One of the World Series off the previously untouchable Dennis Eckersley, propeling the Dodgers to a stunning title win in five games against an Athletics team that was both heavily-favored and heavily-juiced?

Take 10 minutes out of your day and watch this masterpiece.

Fuck yeah. I was solo on Uncle Tricky Dick's downstairs leather sofa on Blueberry Hill a couple of hours after we closed the video store. And for this epic fiasco on ice?

I was at the Brick Oven in North Adams, MA, the bar I lived above/at for my last two years of college. I was two months from graduating and it was a typical Wednesday night at the bar---watching pucks, getting shitty, and bird-dogging honeydips. Given what had gone down in the previous year's playoffs---Claude Lemieux's dastardly and dirty hit on Kris Draper---and with the playoffs just around the corner, there was much more anticipation for this regular season game than your typical Wednesday tilt. And holy shit did it deliver.

When Igor Larionov and Peter Forsberg are scrapping, you know these teams hate each other. Then all hell really breaks loose and hockey history changes course forever. (Later, we put the late-night replay on to see it again and record it on the VCR but some pussy at ESPN made the horrible decision to ax the brawl from re-broadcast.) And now we're going to hear from the guys a quarter-century later in what should be an unreal doc.

We've been fortunate to have a few of the participants on Spittin' Chiclets over the years and it's always interesting to get each guy's individual perspective: some could only watch from the bench (or face a 10-game suspension) and others just reacted in the moment and ended up bloodying one of the best goalies ever.

Needless to say, I can't fucking wait for this to drop in June.
