Best Friends While Growing Up And Drafted In The First Round Together, Now The Cardinals Are Calling Up Nolan Gorman & Matthew Liberatore On The Same Day

Cool story going around about the Cardinals calling up their #2 and #3 overall prospects, Nolan Gorman and Matthew Liberatore getting called up on the same day. It was announced both guys would be joining the Cardinals on Friday. Pretty cool to see a team link two of their top guys and bring them up together, helps them build some confidence, get comfortable, maybe make the transition a little easier. But that isn't the story. The story is that Gorman and Liberatore grew up together and have been best friends since they were little kids. Played baseball together growing up, drafted in the same draft in the first round by two different teams, now are on the same team and getting called up on the same day. How cool is that? Liberatore was drafted by the Rays with the 16th pick in the 2018 draft and Gorman was the 19th pick with the Cards. Liberatore came over to the Cards in the Randy Arozarena trade and that reunited him with his childhood best friend. Gorman is gonna be in the lineup on Friday at second and then Saturday will have Liberatore on the mound with Gorman behind him. How sick is that? Just like t-ball all over again.

Just the fact that these two were 5-years-old on the diamond together, grew up and became two of fantastic players, on the same team, drafted in the first round together, and now are going to make their major league debut on back-to-back days? That is unreal. I mean that is living the dream with your buddy. You're for sure going to hear this story a few more times over the weekend but rightfully so, have to feel happy for these two and their families. A long time coming for both these guys and now they get to do it on the same field. Really cool to see.
