Taylor Lewan Takes Full Responsibility For His Week 1 Debacle Against The Cardinals

On today's Pardon My Take... TAYLOR LEWAN AND WILL COMPTON! The Bussin' With The Boys duo joined Mr. Cat and Mr. Commenter on today's show to discuss what they've been up to on their podcast, some NFL topics, and much more. One of the talking points on the show also included revisiting Lewan's tough outing against the Cardinals in Week 1 last season. What was going through Lewan's mind during a tough game and how does he get through that? He gave us these answers on today's show:

Taylor Lewan: The worst part is when I got hit by Budda Baker doing that, at that point I was so... you want to see a man just unravel, like, just watch that game. You'll see me just absolutely unravel emotionally and mentally. When Budda... I turn my shoulders and he catches me, and I fly down, and I get up just completely defeated. And Budda and Chandler Jones are like walking away, dapping each other up, and Chandler goes, "I told you," as they were jogging away...

Mr. Cat: Oh no. So they were like, "Dude, this guy..." So, what was it? You were coming back from injury, but was it not, you know, strong enough? Not, you know, you hadn't done it enough?

Taylor Lewan: it was more mental and confidence than anything else. I wasn't as strong or as quick, I wasn't as confident in my body at that point. But I was like, "I had to be out there Week 1, had to be out there Week 1." And then I got out there Week 1, and after the first series I was like, "Holy fuck, this is going to be a long day," and then sure enough, dude, he took advantage of my ass.

Mr. Commenter: So, if you're working on like the mental side of your game, obviously like, in the moment, when you hear something like that, you're having a tough game. It's tough not to, like, go into a big spiral, right? It's tough not to go into a bad, negative place. Is there something that you've learned from that experience where you can, in the moment, try to catch yourself and try to keep yourself from going, like, completely checked out?

Taylor Lewan: That's like, that's the only game in my life I've ever been in a situation where it's like, "Hey, I just want to get the fuck out of here."

The physical challenges of being a professional football player are obviously very, very difficult. Throw in the mental side as well? That's an extremely tough task. I will say, it was cool to hear Taylor Lewan be fully transparent about what went down on the gridiron that day. Be sure to give Bussin' With The Boys a listen or watch.
