I Am Officially A Klaythiest After Tonight

I put out one bet I call my favorite play every night there is NBA Basketball on from my gambling handle, @TrustTheData. I spend A TON of time researching different prop bets to try and find an edge and attack lines where I see value. 

The playoffs are finicky and tough to bet honestly. It's the same teams playing each other, so the lines are very sharp. Performance isn't always consistent, so you really need to pick your spots. Klay hadn't been clicking from downtown in the first two games of this series, so I liked him in a bounceback spot tonight. And when I bet 3-point makes, I love to look at the attempts, because if the attempts are there, you have a much better shot to hit. With Klay averaging 11 3-point attempts/game in the first two games, I thought 4 makes was very realistic. Then I dove deeper into the numbers to see he shot it 2.5% better from three at home, but the key stat, was he shot it WAY better on 3+ days rest and these teams haven't played since Tuesday. So the stars were aligning for this so I made it my favorite play of the day.

To say the game was going as I'd hoped after the 1st half would be a lie. I can't recall ever seeing a 3-point line that is higher than 3.5, so when Klay Thompson had ZERO 3-point attempts in the first half, people were panicking. 

But the two things I always tell people that panic early: 

- It's not a 1st half bet, plenty of time left to change things

- Trust the Data

I do my research! I won't win em' all, but I'm damn sure gonna give you my all. I put the word out that things would be changing in the 2nd half.

The 3rd quarter opened with a Klay 3-ball and another minute later he had his 2nd make leading to a Grizzlies timeout. He was clearly feeling it having started 4/4 so he just needed some shots. Things got fun when he made a one legged 3-pointer.

I mean look at this thing!

Things got tight in the 4th quarter and he missed two straight 3s. But the data was so strong on this one, it came through on his last possession before checking out, cashing the ticket.
