A Weapon! Packers Start The Night Off Trading Up Early In The Second Round To Take North Dakota State WR Christian Watson
Giphy Images.Finally! The Packers have gotten Aaron Rodgers a weapon and that man is 6-4 athletic freak Christian Watson. Turns out they tried to move back into the 1st round last night to take Watson, but Minnesota didn't want them getting that 5th year option. It cost them both 2nd round picks in the 50s to get him which is steep, but you had to be aggressive with the WR room they had.
I still think given their situation the Packers should have moved up in the first round last night and taken a guy during the WR run, but my crazy brain is back on board with the plan. To be that aggressive early in the round here makes me relax a little. I do still want another wideout here, maybe with the 3rd round pick they have. One raw rookie WR here isn't going to come close to replacing Davante and MVS.
And yes, on top of Watson you got two players from that elite Georgia defense to sure things up. Once you step away from the immediate rage of not getting a round 1 WR, you realize just how nasty this defense is going to be.
I'll say, pretty weird by Minnesota to trade with the division favorite like that. Sure they denied them the 5th year option, but to directly help the Packers with a position they desperately needed to improve is bizarre. Maybe they knew Green Bay was gonna trade up regardless so might as well take the picks?
The book on Watson is he's raw, but has all the athletic tools you can want. 4.36 40 with his size is pretty awesome. Some drop issues in college, but Davante had the same problems and he turned out fine. Let's just hope Rodgers likes him.
