Boo-Hoo: The Padres Were Furious At The Giants' Mauricio Dubon After He Bunted For A Base Hit While Up 11-2 In the 6th Inning

Here we go, the first "unwritten rules" violation of the 2022 season. If you thought it would be from a team that got criticized for hitting too many grand slams a few years back, you guessed right. The Giants embarrassed the Padres 13-2 last night, and it was over early. This all may have started in the second inning when the Giants swiped a bag up 10-1. Game isn't even close to over, you've got to try and score every run. But apparently the Padres didn't like that. So fast forward to the sixth and it's 11-2, we see Mauricio Dubón drop down a bunt for a base hit. The Padres dugout starts starring daggers at Dubón and back into the Giants dugout. You see Bob Melvin yell stuff towards Gabe Kapler and company, Eric Hosmer immediately comes up to Dubón and says something.

Yes, the same Padres team that we all fell in love with for swinging on 3-0 with the bases loaded, the same team who talked about how you have to play until the last out, how you can't take your foot off the pedal, that team was mad a replacement player came in and bunted for a hit. I do remember some Padres being upset with Tatis Jr. when he was swinging up 3-0, but again, enough of the bullshit unwritten rules, it's a game. And not only were the Padres mad, Kapler was pissed at his guy too, look at how he is going off on Dubón in the dugout. What is going on here, why is he okay with his team stealing bags in the second up 9, but it's not okay in the sixth? I get he doesn't want it to spark the Padres and light a fire under them, or piss them off and start playing beanball. That is probably what he's most worried about, but why make a scene like this over it? If I'm a team I want my team going 100% trying to score 15 every night. We've seen big comebacks, why lay down for a team because it's not their night?

If I'm Mauricio Dubón I'm not apologizing to anyone, want to know why? Say he didn't lay that bunt down, when he's up for arbitration or a new contract in the offseason and the team goes "sorry, you only hit .299, here's our offer. We would have liked to see you hit .300 or higher." And it's lesser deal than he wanted, guess what he's going to remember, when he was told not to bunt for a base hit. Take advantage of every situation given to you, backing down is a clown move. Again, thus unwritten rule stuff is getting so out of control. Don't throw a chicken shit breaking ball in there if you don't want him to bunt, make a competitive pitch maybe. Two seasons ago we rallied behind the Padres as to why breaking these unwritten rules was good, now it's them who don't like them. Come on San Diego, you've got to take your own medicine. I'm sure he'll get plunked sometime this week and people will say "well that's how we handle stuff like this." no, that's a joke. I can't believe we live in a world where grown men are mad at other grown men for bunting in a game. I hope Dubón bunts every game against San Diego.

And Gabe Kapler, why did you celebrate and high five with Joc Pederson after he hit a homer off position player pitching, Wil Myers? That is okay, but you yelled at your other player for bunting off an actual pitcher earlier? That doesn't really check out.

PS. We did have this awesome moment in the game, groundbreaking stuff here by Alyssa Nakken. Love to see this.
