With Davante Adams and MVS Long Gone, Who The Hell is Aaron Rodgers Going To Throw To Next Season?

It kinda really hit me the other day that Davante Adams is no longer on the Green Bay Packers. The news initially broke in the midst of March Madness and although there was that immediate tidal wave of shock, I kind of swept it away under the rug like I try to do with most of my problems. Well now not only is Davante Adams on the Vegas Raiders, but Marquez Valdes-Scantling is a Kansas City Chief.

In the blink of an eye, the Packers elite WR core is now bottom tier in the league. Allen Lazard-Randall Cobb?-Amari Rodgers-Malik Taylor-Juwann Winfree. That's….not good. It's actually dreadful if we're being honest. Aaron Rodgers is the back to back MVP and has a long history of making average wideouts dependable, but not even Jesus could make that work.

The team must improve whether through free agency, trade, or the draft. Matt LaFleur and Gute certainly have their hands full here.

Free Agency

As it stands right now Green Bay is about $15 million under the cap. So what's left of free agency at the moment? 33 year old Julio Jones, Jarvis Landry, Will Fuller, T.Y. Hilton, and Cole Beasley. Yikes. Gotta tell ya, there are no 1s in that group. There are barely any reliable 2s outside of Landry. Will Fuller is decent, but absolutely refuses to stay on the field, failing to eclipse 11 games in any season since 2016. He's been rumored in the past via trade, but nothing ever came to fruition. In theory he works as a 2nd option, but Fuller staying on the field consistently is about as reliable as me keeping hair on my head. Your best option was likely Allen Robinson who signed with the Rams the day before the Adams trade. Timing really was a bitch with how that all unfolded.

Trade

Seattle would be your obvious trade partner with Metcalf or Lockett, but they seem at the moment fine on keeping them for some dumb reason. That being said things can always change and what you hear one day from a front office can change the next. Take it the same way Steve Nash said the Nets weren't going to trade James Harden. Few days later he was a Sixer. Teams obviously gain nothing by saying they're dealing their guys. The Packers have the picks to make a trade work for sure, but it takes two to tango.

Here's my solution. Keep calling Seattle until they either have to call the police or make a trade with you. There's no path to a contender without adding one of those guys and then a first round WR. Allen Lazard is an awesome number 3 and can work his way to a 2 most likely, but he cannot be your 1 with the ghost of Randall Cobb being your 2. Heavens no.

Draft

Well this has to be the year Green Bay goes wide receiver in round 1 right? You know Sam Howell looks awfully fine over there at 22. Maybe double up with Carson Strong at 28!

In reality they have to go WR with one if not both of their early picks considering the current state of the team. Assuming they don't move up (because they only do that to draft backup QBs) the Packers will likely be looking at a crop of Jameson Williams, Chris Olave, Treylon Burks, and George Pickens. Drake London and Garrett Wilson will all but likely be gone by the time they're picking so I'm assuming no shot. If you really can't pry Lockett or Metcalf from Seattle you almost have to use two of your four picks inside the top 60 on wideouts.

I'm personally in love with Jameson Williams and would do anything for him. Unfortunately I am starting to get scared he's not there at 22 with reports of his progress from ACL surgery just a few months ago.

Sure he probably misses time, but ACLs are like sprained ankles these days. You have the chance to draft Jameson Williams you do it. I'd also gladly take on an Olave who can burn you over the top with ease. What am I saying, they're gonna draft two offensive lineman and call it a day.

Very confusing times in Green Bay. Never in a million years did I think Davante would end up elsewhere once Rodgers resigned. You assumed they were a package duo, but apparently not. Trying to get in the head of Davante, I'm assuming he wanted the spotlight on him for a change considering all that's gone on with Rodgers the last few years. Maybe he wants to prove he can be the best pass catcher in the league without 12 throwing him the ball. It makes sense, but it badly hurts the Packers plans of being a true contender. Little over three weeks until the draft and I have no clue what this offense is going to look like. I trust Gute, even if he did trade up to draft Jordan Love that one time.
