We Need To Talk More About How Bad The "Martha" Scene Is In Batman v Superman (Also Zack Snyder Fans Are Insane)

I've found myself in a bit of a war with Zack Snyder fans this week. I honestly didn't know he had such a passionate, rowdy fanbase but apparently it's a well-known thing. I thought most people were just rationale and realized that he consistently makes pretty shitty movies. But there is a LEGION of losers who spend their life defending mediocre filmmaking. It all stemmed from this tweet.

I thought these were just obvious observations that everyone with a brain realized. I've never even heard of Army Of The Dead. And to think this forgettable scene from the re-release of a 4 year old movie got more cheers than Tobey Maguire's entrance in the new Spider-Man is just absurd. Now I get it's a fan vote and this legion of losers had nothing better to do than spam the vote for their king. But objectively speaking, both these awards are undeserved to any unbiased party. And I'm not some Spider-Man or Marvel superfan. I probably prefer DC because of how much I like Batman and Superman as characters, but they just have not made good movies. Thanks in large part to Zack Snyder.

The Snyder Army came at me in full force. Just attack after attack. I knew I had their attention so I followed up with a question that's ate at me for years.

We as a society simply do not talk enough about how absurd that scene was. Zack Snyder somehow managed to take a movie with the two greatest superheroes of all time and turn it into an absolute stinker. The scene is above in case you haven't seen it/forgot how bad it was. But the gist is that Batman doesn't like Superman and wants to kill him. But he's convinced not to upon the realization that Superman's mom is also named Martha.

That's it. That's what solves the conflict in this blockbuster film with two the most iconic characters in the entire superhero universe. So what could the Snyder fans defense of this scene possibly be?

That we just didn't get it!

There's 100 of these replies. They actually think we just don't understand the scene. It's incredibly simple to understand. Their moms are both named Martha. The problem isn't that it's confusing. The problem is that it fucking stinks. People thinking we need a PhD to understand it are delusional.

And yeah I get what he was going for. This is supposed to humanize Superman in Batman's eyes and make him realize he's not so bad after all. All it took was realizing their moms have the same name. Can it work in theory? Maybe. But it absolutely did not work in the movie no matter what these brainwashed fucks have to say.

I'm just baffled by the number of people who go to the end of the Earth to defend this guy. He couldn't even make a good movie about Superman, Superman vs. Batman, or Superman, Batman, and a whole bunch of other awesome superheroes. Do you know how easy that should be???? It should literally be impossible to make a bad Superman movie. Some shots of Krypton. He grows up in Smallville. Then Metropolis. Superman saves some people. Clark Kent and Lois Lane flirt. There's minor bad guys Superman beats up. There's a main bad guy Superman defeats. Boom. End of movie. That easy.

Instead he made it super dark and depressing and boring and just devoid of all entertainment. The Zack Snyder way.
