Tyler Zombro, The Rays Pitcher Who Almost Died After Being Hit In The Head Last Year, Made His Comeback Today On A Big League Mound And That Is Awesome

What an awesome update to that very scary situation from last year. Rays pitcher Tyler Zombro pitched in a Major League spring training game and retired the only 2 batters he faced. Doesn't seem like the biggest news out there, but after being hit in the head last year and almost dying, this is a huge milestone. Just getting out there and facing live batters is an amazing step, today he went one step further and played in a game. It's remarkable. This wasn't a charity thing either, they needed someone to get out of the inning and Zombro did the damn thing. Can't help but feel happy for him. I blogged about his announcement saying he was reporting to spring training a few weeks back and that story was great, this is so much better though.

He had to do a crazy amount of rehab just to be able to life a normal life, emergency surgery the night he was hit to stabilize his skull, now he has 16 titanium plates in his head, 32 screws in his head and there is no chance that will stop him. He's a great story and a person you 100% should be rooting for regardless of what team you pull for. It really is a medical miracle that not only is he still alive, that he was able to come back and pitch. This is one of those "somethings are bigger than sports" moments. The courage that this guy has, he must have balls the size of bowling balls. Didn't look fazed, just went out there and cleaned up the inning for the Rays and went back to the dugout. Really cool moment here and I hope we see more of his appearances on the mound this spring.
