Kelvin Sampson Keeps Making Everyone Look Like Idiots For Even Thinking About Doubting Houston

This is it. This is the last time I write off Houston just because they lost their two best guards to injury early in the season. This is the last time I doubt that Kelvin Sampson will figure out a way to get this team playing like grown ass men. That's what it looked like last night at least. They punched Arizona in the mouth and just dominated them. There was no real response from Arizona. Cut the lead a few times but it always felt like Houston was comfortable doing whatever.

Now I do want to address something here. I see a lot of 'see Houston shouldn't have been a 5 seed.' That's false. They maybe should have been a 4 seed. This is where there's no perfect science. Their predictive metrics had them as a top-5 seed yet the only NCAA Tournament team they beat until the AAC title game? Bryant. Then they beat Memphis after getting swept in the regular season. The resume - which is what the seeds are based on - wasn't there from an actual win/loss look. Did Houston physically look better than a 5 seed? Of course. But you can't just do an eye test to decide who is what seed.

But here is Houston again, a year off a Final Four, back in the Elite Eight. Kelvin Sampson is one of the best coaches in the game. I don't give a shit that he sent texts and calls back in the day. Guess what? There's a 99% chance every single one of your favorite coaches 'cheated.' Sampson just coaches his ass off. It's not like Houston was some rolling program either. Sure they were silly in the 80s with Phi Slamma Jamma, but they were nothing when he took over. Now they are consistently a second weekend team. I love that he's got a little cockiness to him too.

Playing against Houston just looks miserable. They are physical as shit, crash the glass and defend their ass off. Really no one on Arizona looked comfortable. Tubelis and Kriisa were unplayable. Mathurin was just 4-for-14 from the field and never looked comfortable with the ball. Terry was aggressive, that's about it.

As for Sampson leaving, why would he? Houston is rolling, they are going to be in the Big 12 here soon. He's proven he can get them to a Final Four and top-5 seeds every year. So this is my apology blog. I was dead wrong about Houston being a whatever team after losing Mark and Sasser. Just going to start blindly trusting Kelvin Sampson because it's working.
