The Detroit Red Wins Have Their Next 7-Time Norris Trophy Winner In Mo Seider

Life is just one continuous cycle. Time is a flat circle. The actors' names and faces may change but the play remains the same.

So when Nicklas Lidstrom's career ended in Detroit with 7 Norris Trophies to his name as the league's best defenseman, it was only a matter of time before the cycle worked its way back and put another European defenseman in a Red Wings sweater. That defenseman is Moritz Seider.

Unfortunately today the Norris Trophy doesn't mean what it once did. The award is typically given now to the league's top offensive defenseman. You hear the Norris chatter right now about guys like Cale Makar, Adam Fox and Roman Josi. All great defensemen, no doubt about it. But the first thing brought up about all those guys and why they're in the mix for the Norris is their point totals, then their defensive abilities. It would be like calling Jamie Foxx the best musician because you love his acting.

But here we have rookie Moritz Seider making insane defensive plays on a nightly basis, and just generally being a total bully every time he touches the ice. You don't need me to tell you this, but the kid is a force.

And for everyone who has such a boner over points, he can pitch in offensively too. Currently 11th in points among defenseman in the league with 5 goals and 37 assists.

Time is a flat circle.
