The Falcons Are Officially the 'Sleeper' Team to Acquire Deshaun Watson

We're the sleeper team, boys!

According to Adam Schefter, the Falcons are interested in trading for Deshaun Watson, joining the Browns and division rival Saints and Panthers. I think it's relatively obvious that if Watson is cleared of his off-field issues, he's a fantastic option for any team under center. I just need to know what it costs.

Matt Ryan would almost certainly be going to Houston or somewhere else — Cleveland? — in a three-team trade, but it's going to cost much more than that. Atlanta desperately needs every draft pick it has to try to fix a woeful defense and a depleted receiving corps, so every high pick going to Houston in a deal for Watson is one less opportunity to get better elsewhere, potentially for multiple years. And now bidding against two other teams in the NFC South certainly isn't making the price any lower.

If you can get a guy with the talent of Watson, though, do it. Ryan is on his last leg and Watson is going to be a very good quarterback in the NFL for the next decade. If you get the quarterback position right, everything else becomes much easier to fix.

Bring the Gainesville High School star home.
