Marc-Andre Fleury Reportedly Wants To Stay In Chicago To Finish The Season

Here's the thing, though: Fleury is going to determine what his future holds. Despite having a 10-team no-trade list, it's believed the Blackhawks gave Fleury their word that they won't trade him this season, unless he wants to.

And, as of right now, it doesn't look like that will be the case, although it's possible things can change over the next few weeks.

According to TSN's Chris Johnston, Fleury is "leaning towards" finishing the season with the Blackhawks. Of course, the biggest reason why it took Fleury a few days to commit to reporting to Chicago is because he needed some time to reflect and think about whether he wanted to uproot his family.

Well...not the best news if you're Kyle Davidson. Day 1 you talk about a 3-5 year build and part of that process is acquiring assets. Your most valuable chip just said "don't trade me, I'm good right here". The entire league wants him. Goalie markets are always weird at the deadline but the half the league is probably calling about MAF like

Sounds like Fleury got the Ryan Whitney taste of Chicago

Fleury has a 10 team no trade list but it should really be 31 if that is what he wants. He's earned it. Veteran guy who was given assurances, allegedly, and has young kids at home. If he doesn't want to move to Canada or anywhere else for another run at a championship then that should be his decision. If it costs the Hawks a draft pick then so be it. I will enjoy watching him for two extra months and not complain for a second. I love the guy. The personality, the mask, the pads, the competitive streak, the post rubbing, the acrobatics. Stylistically and personality wise he is probably my favorite Blackhawks goalie ever to watch. I love Crawford and Belfore more, obviously, but Fleury has been everything you could ever want in a goalie. If he wants to stay, that is good with me…in fact…just sign him to an extension. Offer him another year at $3M and give him assurances that this team is going to be better next year with a real GM and a real coach to start the season. If that is wrong then I don't want to be right.
