Infuriating to watch again.
The clip went viral and picked up by basically all major outlets. Sajak, in a tweet thread today, is not happy with the internet for piling on:
Obviously I get what Pat is saying. He doesn't want people to feel bad after coming on his show. But when a clip like that happens, a puzzle so preposterous with the players so clueless, people are gonna have a laugh. I'm sure people took it overboard, as anonymous people do on the internet, but I thought for the most part it was just good ol' natured ribbing. Actually, I don't know. I guess the girl got it pretty bad. But how do you not know Feather in your cap?!?! Regardless, it's my civic duty to report on Wheel of Fortune blunders. It's not the life I chose, it chose me. And I ACCEPT the offer to come on the show. And if I suck, I want the entire world shitting down my throat. Not literally.
At the end of the day, nobody right now even remembers what any of the 3 contestants names are or what they look like. I'm typing this and I can't picture a single one. The internet moves fast and I'm sure all 3 will laugh about being on the most viral Wheel of Fortune clip, possibly ever.
