Danny McBride & "The Righteous Gemstones" Being Anti-Season Ending Cliffhanger Is Why They're The Fucking Best

*OBVIOUSLY DO NOT READ THIS IF YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED LAST NIGHT'S SEASON FINALE PLEASE*

Vulture- The Lissons meet their downfall in season finale “I Will Tell of All Your Deeds.” Was there ever a possibility of them stretching as characters into the third season?
You know, I didn’t want to. We used a lot of cliffhangers in the season, which I feel is fair. To get people excited to come back, that’s fair. But there’s always been something for me about cliffhangers at the end of a season that I’ve never really loved as an audience member. I’m so invested, and I want to see what the fuck’s gonna happen, and now I’ve got to wait a year. Who knows if I’ll still be invested in a year after I’ve seen a bunch of other stuff. With this show, I like the idea that every season is its own story with its own set of villains and side characters, and giving the people a full experience so that when it’s done, it’s done.

If you clicked on this blog I'm gonna go ahead to assume you're a massive fan of the The Righteous Gemstones and if you're somehow not you're at least just a fan of McBride in general. Although you would be fucking crazy to be a McBride stan while not watching this show. Of his 3-headed HBO MONSTER of shows (Eastbound & Down, Vice Principals, and this) the Righteous Gemstones just may be the best all-around show of the bunch. Not only is it fucking hilarious with an outright ridiculous cast, but it also has a pleasant mix of action & mystery to go along with it. It's essentially the perfect show. It fucking rocks. And last night marked the end of Season 2.

I'm not gonna discuss what happened in the ending though what I am going to do is commend for being an anti-season ending cliffhanger guy when it comes to television which he mentioned in his post-season Vulture interview I attached above. He mentions how working on Eastbound they never knew if they'd get picked up or not so they'd make sure to give each season a definitive ending which is amazing. Him and his crew should get the Nobel Peace Prize for carrying that along to Gemstones as well.

Everything that fella said above about season-ending cliffhangers couldn't be any more true and now I'm just furious cause whenever I think of shit like that I think of the dumb fucking Walking Dead. You know exactly what I'm talking about if you were a former-watcher as well. Fucking Negan, dude. We're all still scarred from that shit so I just needed to commend Mr. McBride for continuing this sentiment. It felt great to go to bed happy as a Righteous Gemstones fan last night.
