Hacking Group 'Anonymous' Shuts Down Russian State-Backed Television Website 30 Minutes After Declaring A Cyber War On Putin's Government
Source - Hacking group Anonymous has declared 'cyber war' against Vladimir Putin's government after he mounted a full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
The elusive computer experts issued the stark announcement on their Twitter account on Thursday evening.
They said shortly before 10pm: 'The Anonymous collective is officially in cyber war against the Russian government.'
Around 30 minutes later, they announced that they had taken down the website of the Kremlin-backed TV channel RT, which broadcasts in Britain and has been heavily criticized for its coverage.
The cyber war declaration raises the prospect that Russia could be subjected to systematic hacking attempts in the coming days. People on social media responded positively to Anonymous's cyber war declaration against Putin.
First of all, I don't know if any of you follow Anonymous on Twitter but you should. They've been posting a ton of real-time updates on their efforts when it comes to the war on Ukraine and it's fascinating stuff. Basically they're going balls to the wall trying (and in most cases succeeding) to take down Russian state-run websites and propaganda. Here's a sampling of what they've been able to accomplish in the past 24 hours...
The craziest part of this whole thing is how fast they're doing it. Thirty minutes. Think about that….in the time is takes most people to shit, shower, and shave, these guys are taking down government backed websites. Websites with the highest levels of encryption and security. Websites that are vital in delivering the message of Putin's regime. It honestly blows my mind. And we'll never know who they are either. They're just dudes, sitting behind a computer, doing what they think is right.
That's all I've got to say on this one, but if you want to read more about what's going on in Ukraine make sure to follow ZBT. Kate, Chaps, and Cons do a fanatic job in breaking things down in an easy to understand way from a perspective not often heard in mainstream media. Here's their latest episode. Thanks for reading. Have a great weekend…
