The Taylor Swift Themed String Quartet Candlelight Tribute Was Absolute Magic, A Must See For All Fans, Haters Beware
A few months ago my fellow Swiftie friends and I purchased tickets to one of those "SecretNYC" events that are always being promoted on instagram; "Candlelight: A Tribute To Taylor Swift"
I hesitate to even include the link because it's already so hard to get tickets - but it was well worth the wait. Fever has been doing these kinds of events all over the city, with different music artists (others I would've gladly attended include Elton John, From Bethoveen to the Beatles, or Billy Joel.) The advertisement reads as follows:
Enjoy some of the best Taylor Swift songs of all time like never before! Surrounded by the gentle glow of candlelight, you'll listen to a string quartet's rendition of top hits by NY icon Taylor Swift. Be ready to rediscover Taylor's catalog of hits through the magic of an instrumental reinterpretation. You probably already know every word of these catchy songs, but with this concert's sublime performance and stunning atmosphere, you'll feel as if you're listening to them for the first time.
There, are you all happy??? Are you ready to put down your pitchforks?? Does that sound INSANE to you, to enjoy a little culture while appreciating one of your favorite artists? Obviously played in a church for the best string acoustics? The amount of freaks I had coming out of the woodwork saying this was absurd, annoying, like a cult, etc etc…you're right about the cult, but everything else? What's annoying about walking into a stunning venue with the only source of light being hundreds of candles, while the Highline String Quartet flawlessly fills a room full of fans who are willing to be enriched, with some of their favorite music? Haven't you morons ever heard of BRIDGERTON? Remember when that show came out, with 5 Pop songs redone by the Vitamin String Quartet/Duomo? People went fucking nuts. GIRLS went fucking nuts. Is it our fault that we appreciate a little bit of simple beauty coming off of a violin? Use your brain.
The setlist was as follows:
- “Shake it Off”
- “Cardigan”
- “Love Story”
- “Blank Space”
- “Enchanted”
- “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together”
- “Invisible String”
- “All Too Well”
- “Wildest Dreams”
- “Lover”
- “I Don't Want To Live Forever”
- “You Belong With Me”
- "New Romantics"
It was excellent. The quartet was super grateful for so many people coming out to see them play. They encouraged the audience to sing along if we wanted, and for some songs we all softly sang along. It was seriously awesome. People jerked themselves off at John Mayer the past few days while he's been in town, how is this any different than heading to MSG for a concert? I'd argue its more interesting! It was about an hour long, and I highly recommend going. I'll be going again in April with my mother, who bought us tickets the second she saw my instagram stories. Sorry for blowing all your minds, but its fun to do things that might be…deep breath…a little different!
