MLB Has Another Massive Problem On Their Hands...Their New Spring Training Trucker Hats Stink

Don't listen to Michael Schwab, these hats STINK. MLB isn't having a spring training...yet, but that didn't stop them from unloading the new hats guys will hopefully wear in the spring. The minor leagues are still on as planned and the guys not on the 40-man are reporting to camps and showing off the new look. Some teams are having "minicamps" so we get to see a sneak peek of them. Unfortunately, much like everything else around the world of baseball right now, it's awful. A hat is a hat, I get it. But as my co-worker Deion Sanders said, look good, play good. These do not look good.

Throw a Von Dutch patch on this bad boy and it's a hat Ashton Kutcher would wear to the "That '70's Show" season 5 premier in 2002. Why are we going with the trucker hat look now? It's 2022, these have been out of style for a good 15 years, and guys certainly don't want to wear these while playing baseball. The alternate logo on the front is fine, the spring training location logo on the side is whatever, but the mesh in the back is gross. You wear mesh hats when you're in t ball and Timmy has his finger halfway to his brain inside his nose while playing second, not top prospects in camp.

Of course the players don't like them, they're awful. Sam Carlson, the #24 ranked prospect in the Mariners system is OUT on them. Hard to blame you, Sam. They aren't practical, they don't look good, it's just another example of MLB thinking they know what is best for the players but pissing down their leg. The color schemes look fine, I like that they aren't two different colors but the mesh is a hard no for me.

Now if there is one guy who will look good in these trucker hats it's Jack Leiter, the second overall pick in last year's draft. Kid is going to be a stud and has quads that make Saquon Barkley blush. It's a little harder to see on Leiter which seems like good news. From far away you won't be able to see how bad they look. I just don't understand going back in time with the trucker/mesh look. Live in 2022 and give us a normal hat. People enjoy buying the spring training merchandise, no one in the right mind wants to wear a trucker hat.

I would understand if it was a heat thing. Maybe it gets so hot in Arizona and Florida that the mesh cools them down much more. It's not heavy, doesn't get soaked in sweat, that I would understand. Optically they don't look pleasing at all, but if it's for the heat and weather, I understand the practicality of it. Still not a fan, but I'm not the one pitching in them. Rumor is most of the players like them, even though they look team giveaways. It's the least of MLB's problems right now, maybe they should work harder on the CBA and less on what the players hats look like. I may change my tune if I see the Orioles colors, but right now I give these a thumbs down.
