Awesome Video Of 50-Year-Old Kelly Slater Being Carried Out Of The Ocean After Winning His EIGHTH Pipeline Title
What a moment. Six days shy of his 50th birthday and Kelly Slater is being carried out of the ocean to celebrate his eighth Pipeline title. Imagine being at the top of your game at that age? Imagine being at the top of your game at any age? The only person I can liken him to is Tom Brady who, ironically enough, is good friends with Slater. It's a GOAT thing. The two messaged regarding his potential retirement prior to his win on Sunday...
Now that he's on top — again — Slater is starting to consider retirement. Nothing official, of course.
For advice on the matter, Slater messaged with his buddy, Tom Brady, for a back and forth from one athlete dubbed the GOAT, or Greatest of All Time, to another.
“It would be interesting if that happened in the same week,” Slater cracked in an interview Sunday (Saturday in Hawaii) with The Associated Press, on the possibility that he’d retire on the heels of Brady’s announcement. “We’ll see how that goes. I’m contemplating whether I stop now or really go full bore this whole year, which would be, in my eyes, really for the fans and saying goodbye to everybody after all the years of support they’ve given me.”
Although it doesn't sound like it's going to happen considering Slater told the reporter, "everyone who retires from surfing just goes surfing more.” Good for him. He also beat out a twenty-four year old kid to win the title which proves that like Brady, he's aging in reverse. What I'm trying to say is that Kelly Slater is and always has been the coolest man on the planet. 8 Pipelines, 11 World Titles, and 55 World Championship Tour victories. He was surfing's youngest champion at 20 in 1992 and its oldest at 39 in 2011. And here he is eleven years later...
Congrats, champ. Now here's the greatest surfing video of all time. Enjoy…
