49ers Fans Need To Stop Blaming 'Bad Luck' For Consistently Losing In The Playoffs, It's Bad Decisions And Plays

Alright so I saw this floating around and decided to blog about it. Sue me, it's what we do here. It's such a lazy take to say everything is bad luck. Look at the plays, they are bad plays. Not luck. It's something we do in sports all the time one way or another. It's happening right now in college basketball with Providence.

Wait how is this madman bringing Providence into a blog about the 49ers?

Simple. Providence is currently ranked No. 1 in the country according to KenPom's luck factor. People keep bringing it up. However, they are 18-2 and keep winning. Now, sure, if you want to make an argument that their two losses are blowouts and that's concerning it's fair. But it also means something to keep winning close games. You're making plays late to survive. That's all that matters, especially come March. You don't get bonus points for winning by 1 or 100 in March. You also shouldn't get penalized seeding wise for 'barely' winning. Wins matter. Losses matter. We even talked about it on Bench Mob today.

Okay, he did it. Back to the 49ers right?

Yes back to the 49ers. Here's the response I got from the person who made the bad luck video.

Okay, let me argue here. Fumbling the punt? Don't get stripped. Awesome red zone offense stumbling? Don't run a fade with no other options and have it not come close on 4th down with the game on the line. Blowing a 4th quarter lead? Don't. Simple. That's not bad luck. Shit, Kyle Shanahan could have gone for it on 4th and 2. Dropping this interception isn't bad luck, it's a simple catch, even for a defender.

Bad luck is something outside impacting the game. For instance, the ref not calling pass interference in the Saints/Rams game is bad luck because refs will call pass interference for basically anything. Not making plays isn't bad luck. It's bad execution. It's bad play calling. It's everything but luck. Coley kind of nailed it today.

Sometimes, people just don't find ways to win. That's the 49ers. Instead of 'bad luck' how about the fact that Eli was unbelievable that game? Would it have been bad luck for the Giants to lose that after Eli played arguably the best game of his career? 32-for-58, 316 yards, 2 touchdowns and no picks all while getting his shit kicked in every time he dropped back. And what about the good luck the 49ers had? Let's just stick with the Giants. Trey Junkin ring a bell?

Don't miss throws. Don't fumble. That's the point of the story here. It's not bad luck. It's bad plays. Stop blaming everything on luck.
