Wharton Students Were Asked What the Average American Makes and Their Answers Were ... Not Close

U.S. News and World Report will tell you the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania is the second-best business school in the country, behind only Stanford. I would submit that this tweet is enough evidence to at least give these rankings a cursory re-visit.

One out of every four of the students surveyed thought the average person in this country was bringing in at least $100,000. I feel like the students at what's supposed to be one of the bastions of our nation's economic intellect should be a little more in tune with, you know, how much money most people in the United States make, but whatever. They weren't even the crazy ones in the class.

One kid said the average American is making EIGHT HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS A YEAR! Look, if you thought most people throughout the country were making $80,000 because you grew up in a penthouse condo in New York City, now attend an Ivy League university and were just taking a stab at what it's like in Iowa, that's one thing. This guy added another zero! Multiplied that already kind of insane guess by 10!

Maybe we need to take a break from whatever 400-level curriculum these kids are learning right now and do a couple weeks on "Normal People and Money."
