RIP To Kentucky And College Basketball Legend Joe B. Hall

Shit man, just horrible news to wake up to this morning. Joe B. Hall is a legend in both the Kentucky and college basketball community. He's truly one of the forgotten greats and was one of the better personalities. Even in recent years, Joe B. Hall was a staple at games, a staple as the Y and one of Cal's best friends. Hall won the 1978 title, made three Final Fours all while keeping the program at a high level after taking over for Adolph Rupp.

The man bled Kentucky blue, so much so that he famously said he wouldn't piss up Bobby Knight's ass if his bowels were on fire.

[The Athletic] -  Denying combustible coach Bob Knight a perfect season was the real thrill, after what his former friend had done to him. (Earmuffs, kids.)

“I wouldn’t piss up his ass if his bowels were on fire,” Hall says now.

That's an all-time quote. That's how I want to remember Joe B. Hall. A great coach, a great guy and someone who would always be willing to talk shit/fight if he had to. The best part of that story though? Well beating Indiana in the 1975 NCAA Tournament, but also the fact Hall/Knight were friends. That was until the notorious story of Bobby Knight losing his shit on the refs while up 25, Joe B. Hall being a smartass and Knight slapping him on the back. That led to a near brawl and ended Hall/Knight being friendly at all, which GOOD. Again, fuck Bobby Knight and I don't want my coaches to be friends with rivals.

We hear all the time about how hard it is to replace a legend. Joe B. Hall did that and there was arguably no one better for it than him. He served under Rupp for 7 years before going 297-100 as a head coach. Now I can't think of a better way to honor Joe B. Hall than beating the everliving shit out of Tennessee today. Even start the game in a 1-3-1 as a tribute to him.

RIP to a legend, Joe B. Hall.
