Jaylen Brown Is Now Officially A Member Of The 50 Point Club
Jesus christ. Is it possible to be happy and relieved that the Celtics didn't actually lose a game to a 7 win team while also being extremely annoyed that they even put themselves in that position in the first place? Because that is my rapid reaction right now. At this point I don't think any Celts fan can thumb their nose on a win, not when they are clawing to get back to .500 but holy shit can they please stop doing it this way. That was WAY more stressful than it ever should be, mostly because for 90% of this game the Celts went back to playing like assholes. A billion turnovers, nothing but threes, no movement, basically everything that worked against the best team in basketball was something they decided NOT to do against one of the worst teams in basketball. That makes sense. Personally I would have gone with a different approach but I'm just a blogger.
Thankfully, Jaylen Brown exists. What a tale of two halfs for Jaylen. To start, he couldn't stop turning the ball over (finished with 7). But when things looked to be at their worst, he responded. Not only did he have an insane 4th quarter with 21 points on 9-12 shooting, he finished with 50/11/4
Again, we all agree this team should have never been in this position in the first place. This is the fucking Magic we're talking about here. But the reality is they did find themselves in that position and Jaylen Brown carried them out. That had been an issue as of late with some of these brutal losses to end the month of December, but it's a new year. Finally the Celts didn't blow a clutch time game and instead were the ones that made the plays. This time their best player rose to the occasion instead of turtling and not coming through. I think everyone from Jaylen to the fans needed to see that. He needs to figure out his turnover issues but we'll worry about that tomorrow.
When the game got tight, Jaylen was aggressive. Good things happen when he attacks the rim, and I hope that sticks with him moving forward. It's why I didn't really love his game winner attempt. Keep going to the rim. Whatever though, he came through and he had the perfect quote after the game
I couldn't have said it better myself. Disaster averted, now let's keep going.
