MLB free agency is heating the fuck up as we near the all important lockout date in December. Teams are gonna start spending over the next 48 hours as we enter a dark winter of nothingness so you can expect lots of deals to be announced shortly. We had the Mets go nuts the other day and earlier Sunday Byron Buxton inked a 7 year $100 million extension with Minnesota. Now Texas has dropped their own bomb bringing in All-Star shortstop Marcus Semien on a 7 year deal worth $175 million. WOW.

I'm not sure I saw Semien linked there once since free agency began. Now the Rangers have tons of money to spend and could easily add $100 million to their 2022 payroll, but Semien was not the guy I had pinned ending up there. Guys like Seager and Story were more on my radar for Texas, but I guess not! Nope, instead its the 31 year old coming off a top 3 MVP season. This guy took a 1 year prove it deal and turned it into $175 million. Good for Marcus Semien and good for Texas locking up a dude who has posted a 7.6 and 6.6. fWAR in his last two full seasons.

I guess the Rangers are still very much in on Story.  Sure!

Like I said, they wanna spend. They've got that new ballpark and want people to pack it out.The Rangers are still a ways away from really competing, even with Semien. They need tons of pitching and offense. Signing all of the shortstops on the free agent market is a start. I actually could see Story going there on a short term deal. My bet would be Houston for him at the moment though.

What Semien going to Texas does is rule out for all intents and purposes Corey Seager heading there. There were strong connections and ties to the organization for the Dodgers shortstop, but that seems dead. That really leaves him with the Dodgers and Yankees as his destinations. There have been reports he wants a deal done before the lockout. My bet right now would be he goes back to LA. Also with the money here that means Correa is going to get a ton of fucking money. Semien is 31, Correa is 27. He's gonna top Lindor's number.

Everyone buckle up
