Goooooood Morning Giants Fans! Ian Rapoport Says Dave Gettleman Likely Won't Be Back With Big Blue Next Season
NFL.com- The New York Giants made a bold move earlier in the week, firing offensive coordinator Jason Garrett. With that change in hand, one can't help but contemplate what's next. And that likely won't be the only change they make with an eye toward the future.
General manager Dave Gettleman, who has run the team's personnel department since 2018, is unlikely to return in 2022, sources with knowledge of the situation and those with deep knowledge of the league say. With two first-round picks in the next draft and a critical offseason ahead, don't be surprised if there is another voice making the final call alongside head coach Joe Judge. Gettleman, who will be 71 next season, may end up walking away himself and into retirement.

I hope everyone that roots for Big Blue is still hungry for good news after Jason Garrett was let go this week because this report of Gettleman being kindly nudged into retirement on the Cape is a little slice of pigskin pie from the Football Gods (I think today is the last day I can use Thanksgiving puns).
We've heard whispers about Gettleman being done after season from random Twitter reporters, but if Rapsheet writes it, it might as well be written on the back page of every New York newspaper. Especially since Ian started getting the inside scoop on all things Giants since Judge got hired, which surely must be a coincidence considering Rapoport got his start covering Mississippi State back when Joe Judge was playing and coaching there.
As for the Gettlefinger himself, what is there to say about Dave Gettleman that hasn't already been said about the novel coronavirus? He's caused chaos, been here longer than any of us thought he'd be, and the ramifications of his actions will be felt for a long time after he's gone. At least he stopped lobbing quotes to the media that everyone on the planet could use to dunk on Giants fans and hired FOUR (4) computah folks to handle those fancy football numbers that people call analytics while breaking down game film on his Wii.

In the building, there would be some strong candidates to replace him, notably VP of football operations and assistant GM Kevin Abrams. Outside the building, the organization will likely look at some candidates with a background in the New England scouting system more in-line with Judge's thinking, along with others.
If the Giants are looking to hire a GM to pair with Coach Judge's line of thinking, you would think Judge is safe as long as the Giants don't free fall in the second half of the season and he learns how to manage the clock at the end of the half. To be clear, I'm not saying that is anywhere near a lock to happen because I've run too many laps after too many inexcusable losses. But not having a clapping moronathon calling the plays of offense may have the Giants resemble an actual NFL team the rest of the year. I also can't get too excited about the thoughts of the Giants looking outside the organization since the franchise has been more incestuous with everything they do than the Targaryens.
None of this matters today though. I need the Giants to show up, kick the shit of the Eagles, and give Michael Strahan some good memories from his number being retired along with maybe getting the G-Men back in the In The Hunt graphic. We can worry about all this front office nonsense at the end of the season because I am not ready to worry about how John Mara handles all this.
