Great News: Uber Eats Is Now Delivering Weed

Source - Uber Eats is adding some greenery to the menu. The online food ordering service announced Monday that its partnering with cannabis retailer Tokyo Smoke to offer online pot orders in Ontario, Canada.

Uber Eats will start listing Tokyo Smoke’s products under a new section labelled “cannabis” on its marketplace on Monday, though customers won’t be able to order pot for delivery.

Customers can place orders from the Uber Eats app, but then must pick the product up at a Tokyo Smoke store.

“By combining a streamlined ordering process through the Uber Eats app with Tokyo Smoke’s in-person pickup service, we’re creating a new end-to-end experience for responsible cannabis ordering across the province,” said Lola Kassim, general manager of Uber Eats Canada.

Lovely. Pot delivery by Uber eats. Now you can get an eighth of weed for $60 plus another $300 in delivery fees. I'm not saying people won't try this (I'm sure the delivery drivers will) I'm just saying that it seems a bit unnecessary. Then again, maybe I'm wrong. I don't smoke much anymore because it gives me anxiety and I don't have time to smoke it out of my system. I'd need to get high every day for a month in order to be able to adequately function and I've got way too much going on to do that. Also, don't 90% of weed dealers deliver anyway? Without the fee? Why would anyone want to pay more if they don't have to? I guess to save them the trip of driving to the store...

As of right now this is only happening in Ontario which may seem like an isolated area, but in reality spans over 415,000 square miles and has a population of over 14 million people. So yeah, it's a pretty big undertaking for both Uber Eats and Tokyo Smoke, the company who they've partnered with.

More on Tokyo smoke and how the delivery system will work...

Tokyo Smoke, which is owned by $4.2 billion pot company Canopy Growth, has almost 50 stores in Ontario, according to its website, including one in Windsor, right across the border from Detroit.

Orders will be fulfilled within an hour from when the order is placed, the companies said, and customers must confirm they’re of legal age to buy pot in Ontario. Customers will have to show ID when they go to pick up the product.

The partnership marks San Francisco-based Uber’s entry into the marijuana business, which CEO Dara Khosrowshahi has long hinted the company may expand into.

It wasn’t immediately clear if Uber’s partnership with Tokyo Smoke in Ontario is just a trial, or if there are plans to expand the offering more broadly across Canada.

A representative for Uber did not immediately return The Post’s request for comment.

Time will tell whether or not this makes it's way into the states but something tells me it will. Weed is just another commodity now. In most states buying it is as casual as buying a gallon of milk. You may as well let them deliver it to your house. That's all for this one. Thanks for reading.
