Thank God The 0-8 Lions Started A Backup QB Because The Browns Wouldn't Have Beaten Anyone Else On The Planet Today

Squeaked out a 13-10 home victory over the winless Lions. What has this team come to?

I can say this with the utmost confidence: if the Browns played any of the other 30 teams in the NFL today, they'd have lost miserably. But they played the Detroit Lions. The 0-8 Lions, who were without their starting quarterback, and we were at home. And we won 13-10.

Let me reiterate: Tim Boyle made his first career NFL start. He threw for 77 yards and 2 interceptions. And almost went into Cleveland beat the Browns.

Thank God for Nick Chubb. 22 carries for 130 yards. And his best attribute was probably that every time he got the ball, it meant Baker Mayfield didn't have to throw it.

Overthrows, underthrows, throws that made zero sense, and he completed almost as many passes to the Lions as he did the Browns, including this highlight reel clip:

Today did not help the real Browns fans that have to defend their quarterback to the "Browns fans" that are cheering for Baker to be awful each week. And today definitely didn't help Baker Mayfield's case to sign a franchise QB contract this off-season. I need to know what he and his agent are thinking right now. Because I know this is just my opinion, but I've never been more right on something in my entire life: he should be our franchise QB for about $10 million a year. If he wants one penny more than that, see ya buddy. Or go see what you can get on the open market and we'll match it, but it's not going to be more than we're offering you. Take the $10-$15 million, stay surrounded by the top runningbacks, offensive line, and defensive end in the league, and continue to be our fiery leader. But don't you dare think for one second that the Browns are low-balling you if we don't even give you 1/10th of what Mahomes, Lamar, or Josh Allen are getting.

Ok -- that may have been harsh, but he was awful today. I don't know if he's just awful in general or really hurt, but either way, if he's going to throw like that, we need to see Case Keenum. What else are we paying a backup QB $6 million a year for if we're not going to use him when our starter isn't getting it done?

A win is a win. No matter what way you slice it, we're back above .500. And 6-5 is very much alive in the playoff picture. But the way the rest of this schedule looks, I'm not sure if 7-10 is going to win the division this year.

Yiiiiikes. That has to be the toughest remaining schedule in the league. What will we be favored in, two of these tops? If we want any chance at the division and/or playoffs, we need to beat the Ravens next Sunday night. Plain and simple. They're 7-3 and we're 6-5. If they move to 8-3 and we fall to 6-6, someone find that Vince Carter gif because it's over. BUT, if we go to 7-5 and they fall to 7-4, it's a completely different story.

Must win game next weekend in Baltimore. And I know I just tore him up for the entire blog, but I do like my Baker with his back against the wall. And maybe Lamar Jackson will still be sick?
