The Wrap- The 1990s “X-Men: The Animated Series” is getting a revival on Disney+ with a premiere sometime 2023, TheWrap has exclusively learned. Currently called “X-Men ’97,” the revival will pick up where the classic show left off, with several cast members from “X-Men: The Animated Series” are returning; some will reprise their original roles and others will step into entirely new roles.

The original “X-Men: The Animated Series” consisted of 76 episodes that aired across fives seasons between 1992 and 1997. It is currently available on Disney+. The animated series is credited for introducing the Marvel comic team to a mainstream audience, which arguably helped set it up for its 2000 live-action film. That film, starring Patrick Stewart and a then-unknown Hugh Jackman, started the early days of the superhero boom.

Children of the 90s stand the fuck up! Okay, children of all decades, grown ass adults, and all sorts of fans of the X-Men, the MCU, or just entertainment can stand up too because this is massive news that currently has me acting like this all by myself in my house.

I got into Marvel thanks to the X-Men, so this announcement has a little special meaning to me. The comics got me interested, the trading cards got my attention, but it was the cartoon that got me hooked. The Animated Series did an incredible job nailing the team dynamic of the X-Men. Not just the big guns like Professor X, Wolverine, and Storm. But they nailed Gambit. They nailed Rogue. Cyclops wasn't just some giant pussy (even though he definitely exhibited some pussy tendencies). They didn't completely botch the Dark Phoenix Saga and made it actually good, which is quite a concept for one of the best comic arcs ever! Even the villains were the perfect mix of bad guys that liked to do hoodrat things with their friends while also expressing fair reasoning for why they broke bad.

And of course the cartoon had that intro. That sweet sweet intro with honestly the greatest song in not just television history but music history.

Here's another rendition for the more cultured readers of Barstool Sports.

Not only did Disney+ announce they are bringing back the show and throw a 97 at the end to make Olds like me that geek out over all things giddy but THEY DID THE MEME!!!

You know Robbie and I will be spending a comical amount of time in the basement talking about this announcement as well as everything that was unveiled for Disney+ today, with Robbie already spitballing great ideas.

Not only that, but we had planned to have the creators of the X-Men cartoon on My Mom's Basement (subscribe on YouTube or your favorite podcast site) to talk about the series as we did a full rewatch before a little thing called COVID-19 caused us to get distracted. But now that they are officially bringing the series #back, it seems like the perfect time for everyone to rewatch/catch up on the cartoon until that beautiful motherfucker Feige decides to give us mutants in the flesh, which no matter how much he tickles my nostalgia bone I want sooner rather than later. That obviously hasn't and won't be announced today, which is perfectly fine since we are still getting hyped that they are bringing back a cartoon that should've never been cancelled.

NOW HIT THE MOTHERFUCKING MUSIC AND LET IT KEEP PLAYING ON LOOP UNTIL 2023 WHEN THE NEXT EPISODE OF THIS SHOW COMES OUT.
