The Gang Is Back Together In The First Trailer For SCREAM 5

Twenty-five years after a streak of brutal murders shocked the quiet town of Woodsboro, a new killer has donned the Ghostface mask and begins targeting a group of teenagers to resurrect secrets from the town’s deadly past.

I like Scream and the little sub niche of meta slashers that they carved out within the horror genre. Mostly because that genre is filled to the brim with unoriginal garbage, and Scream had something original to say. The first entry in the franchise since Wes Craven passed has brought back the old gang in Neve Campbell, David Arquette, Courtney Cox, Roger L. Jackson, and Marley Shelton which I love. The trailer gave us a good look at them plus the boy himself, Ghostface.

Crazy thing about Ghostface is that he may be the most iconic horror mask there is! And that isn't to say that Scream is better than Halloween or Texas Chainsaw Massacre, but the Ghostface mask is always front and center at the former Circuit City converted into a Spirit Halloween.

In addition to the familiar, they also have some new blood that I am not overly-familiar with (with the exception of Jack Quaid from 'The Boys'). After this 10 year gap, the only thing I'm looking for is some homage paid to the first movie along with something fresh offered individually. In my opinion, every sequel got progressively worse and more diluted from what made the original great and I think directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett probably feel the same. They've done some great horror in 'V/H/S' and 'Southbound', and did a good job infusing comedy into the genre with 'Ready or Not'. So I think you can expect this to be a refreshing change of pace in the same way the recent 'Halloween' was for that franchise.
