Emily Mayfield Is Upset With Browns 'Fans' And Wants To See Baker Get Some More Credit
Listen I know she's the First Lady of Cleveland and all, but Emily Mayfield is completely wrong here. Absurd to the point that I think she should apologize. First of all, who is blaming Baker for the loss yesterday? I blogged last night that there was plenty of blame to go around for the Browns 47-42 collapse against the Chargers, and I didn't give even .00001% of it to Baker. Emily's got a serious case of the rabbit ears if she thinks Browns fans are blaming her husband for the loss yesterday. I haven't seen even one person say that Baker, who threw for 305 yards, 2 touchdowns, and had a122.5 passer rating, cost us that ball game. That was 98% the refs fault, 1% the defense's fault, and 1% Coach Stefanski's fault for his play calling and clock management. And everyone knows it. Literally NO BODY is upset with Baker this morning.
And second of all, who is not giving him enough credit for "giving his all and changing the entire culture in CLE"???? Emily, and this is a rhetorical question, but have you been to Cleveland lately? Been to a Browns game? Baker Mayfield is LOVED. My god I wouldn't rather go into battle with anyone else. What a fire he has lit into our city. Cleveland adores this guy and we realize that we haven't had quarterback play like this since we returned in 1999. Do you think the city forgets that? Baker Mayfield is hands down the most popular man in Cleveland. No question about it. But the fact of the matter is that now that he's shown we CAN win, we now expect him to play well. I saw this on Twitter today and it's 100% true. Baker has elevated this organization to the point where we have an attainable goal of making the Super Bowl. And until he takes us on that Super Bowl run, people are going to want more from him. So yeah, is he better than Johnny Manziel and Deshone Kizer and Brandon Weeden? Obviously. But no one is handing out cookies for that anymore. We've won a playoff game. We want more. So when Baker misses wide open receivers (which he didn't do yesterday and no one said boo unless apparently Emily Mayfield's twitter timeline), we're going to mention it. That's part of being on a good team. We want to win. When you play poorly, fans get upset. That doesn't make you any less of a "true fan".
And third of all, if you're going to be the wife of an NFL quarterback, you're going to need to have a little thicker skin than this. "SUPPORT or guys. The hate does nothing for them". Wah wah wahhhh. This isn't peewee football. Criticism comes with the territory. We'll put a statue up when he wins it all and we'll complain when Odell Beckham has three wide open touchdowns against the Vikings and you miss all three throws. That sounds pretty fair to me when you factor in that he gets paid millions of dollars to play a game, and even more than that to make commercials. Sorry it isn't all kumbaya when he goes 15 of 33.
**Which he didn't. He played well. Someone tell Emily Mayfield I said so.
