I am still almost shaking as I write this post game blog. As an Ole Miss fan, I am so conditioned to losing games like this I do not even know how to feel.
Ole Miss beat Arkansas 52-51 in a THRILLER. Arkansas scored on a 9 yard TD pass from KJ Jefferson to Warren Thompson on the final play of the game to cut lead to one.
Arkansas head coach Sam Pittman decided to go for two and the win on the road. I can’t say I blame him in the least. Luckily, KJ Jefferson’s pass fell harmlessly incomplete.
There was a flag on the field which almost gave me a panic attack flashing back to the 2015 game. I was sitting on the 50 yard line when Ole Miss stopped Arkansas on a 2 point conversion in OT but got called for a face mask. Ark converted on the next play to win 53-52 and ruin Ole Miss very real SEC Title shot after converting this all time 4th & 25.
The parallels between the two games are crazy. If Arkansas converted, the final score even would have been the exact same.
The 2021 version was a back and forth shoot out. The two teams combined for 1287 yards of total offense and there were 3 touchdowns in the final 82 seconds!
Ole Miss QB Matt Corral’s Heisman chances are so back after he took a beating in last week’s 42-21 loss at Alabama. He came into the game second to Bryce Young of Alabama.
After throwing 6 INT in the loss at Ark last year, Corral had his vengeance combining 287 yards and 2 passing TDs with 94 yards rushing and 2 rushing TDs in the win. The stats are great but don’t totally tell the story.
Time and time again, the Rebels ran the 200 pound Corral for key conversions all game long. He also threw the game winning 68 yard TD pass to Braylon Sanders with 1:07 left.
Ole Miss moves to 4-1 on the season and Lane Kiffin makes his return to Knoxville next Saturday! He is sure to get quite the welcome from Vol fans after leaving UT after coaching one season in 2008.
Who knows who else will be there to greet Lane and the Rebels?
