Goin’ Out West for the World Series of Poker

I am flying to Las Vegas early Sunday morning to play in the World Series of Poker for the first time since 2018! I am almost giddy writing this blog with excitement.

The last time I played WSOP, I finished 327th out of 7800 players in the 2018 Main Event for around $40,000 busting late Day 4. At that time, I was hosting my radio show Mixin’ It Up With Mintz in Bossier City, Louisiana from 3-6pm everyday.

My producer Seth Foster finished 94th for $66,330 too! It was an unreal week for our mom & pop radio operation I still remember fondly. Norman Chad even mentioned the radio show on ESPN when Seth was at the featured table. (I also finished 75th in the 2011 WSOP Main Event for $75,000.)

Fast forward 3.5 years and now I am going back to play a WSOP event as a Barstool Sports employee. I am not sure what to expect other than that it will be wild and people are more likely to bluff me for the story. I have not played a live poker tournament since before Covid in February of 2020.

I am taking two Las Vegas trips during WSOP. This first one I am trying to get my game sharp playing in some smaller buy ins to start.

Current WSOP Schedule:

Sunday: $500 5 million Guaranteed Reunion

Monday: $600 Deep Stack

Tuesday: $1000 Super Turbo Bounty

The plan is to make a run in one of these and fire up the stoolies! Nate and I are going to be doing lots of blogs and videos of our journey for Crackin’ Aces, the Barstool Poker podcast. I want to show the Stoolies the true WSOP experience. Expect interviews, hand reviews and a whole lot more.

If I do well in a tourney or the content takes off, I might stay for the $3000 event on Wednesday and the $1500 Millionaire Maker on Friday. I got the live poker bug so bad and cannot wait to be back in action!

I will be returning to Las Vegas sometime after Halloween with Nate and Smitty to fire the $10,000 Main Event on Friday November 5th.
