Ryder Cup Dream: Daniel Berger Turns Into America's Ian Poulter, Pisses Off Europe And Wins It For The US

So I've been thinking about this after I read Carl's blog about Ryder Cup Confessions.

Now I know I'm not one of the Foreplay guys or Banks or even Carl. But, I do fucking love golf. I watch every week, I play every week. I just love the sport. Always have, always will. Also kind of forced to when your family has its own golf tournament that's about hit its 50th year. So ever since the Ryder Cup team was announced and quite frankly even before that, I was thinking about one thing and one thing only.

Who can turn into our Ian Poulter. Who can be the guy that Europe ends up despising. Who can be the guy that ends up being OUR guy. Now the key is like Poulter he can't be a superstar already. That rules out Spieth and Thomas and Finau. Only one guy came to mind. My dude Daniel Berger.

Don't get me wrong, Daniel Berger is a damn good golfer. He's got a top-10 in all four majors in his career, including a top-10 at the US and British Opens this year. But he's a Ryder Cup rookie - he's already won at the Palmer Cup and Presidents Cup. The dude is just a solid ass golfer. You know what you're going to get with him. That's what Europe has right now with Poulter (and honestly guys like Sergio, Casey and even Westwood).

I've said it before. I wish the US had a guy like Poulter. We were on the path there with Reed, but he's not on the team. Berger can for sure be that dude. He has the personality - his boat is named Strait Vibin, which is just perfect. Now here's the key. In order to truly make Europe despise you, you have to do it on the road. That won't happen for two years. But this? At home, the key is to get the crowd fired up. Look at what Molinari and Fleetwood did in France during the last Ryder Cup. They became legends because of that and Fleetwood looks like a staple going forward. He's going to have a chance to do that. I know he's not in what appears to be one of the three marquee pairs, but Berger should get a chance to play 2, maybe 3 rounds before Sunday.

We know for the majority of Ryder Cups we're going to have the big names. DJ, Brooks, Bryson, Finau, JT, Spieth, Morikawa even with how young he is. Big names always show up and part of what wins you the Ryder Cup is someone like a Berger getting those points. That leaves only a few spots and that's where we need Berger to be our dude. That's my dream. Well the dream is to win the damn Ryder Cup because I'm sick of losing to Europe in my lifetime. But I also want to have someone that is our guy. Someone Europe can't stand that shows up and kicks their dicks in every two years.
