Edie Falco Reprised Her Role As Carmela Soprano For The Many Saints Of Newark...But It Got Cut

Insider- Alan Taylor, the director of the upcoming "Sopranos" prequel film "The Many Saints Of Newark," has revealed that Edie Falco reprised her role as Carmela Soprano in the movie, but her only scene was omitted from the final theatrical cut.

"We had Edie come in and she dressed up as Carmela and we shot something with her, and it wound up not being in the final movie, but it was a great excuse to see her again," Taylor, who directed several episodes of the "Sopranos" TV series, told NME.

"She's so ridiculously talented and she's also one of these people who – and it seems to frequently be women – that manage to be perfect actors and also the sanest people you've ever met in your life. I think Frances McDormand is like that and Edie Falco has that same quality of being like a solid, good, sane person. It was good to see her again."

Taylor later added that there had been "some confusion" about how best to open the film, and Falco's scene had been one of the suggestions, but they ultimately decided to "begin it in a very different way."

Uhm WHAT!?!?!?!!?!?! We had the balls to drag the QUEEN Edie Falco all the way to set to reprise a role she probably (if we're being honest) hates only to friggen cut it from the movie! I would say I'm angry but I'm not angry...I'm just disappointed. Especially at the fact that Carmela friggen Soprano could have been in the movie but now is apparently not which means us folks obsessed with the Sopranos need to sit here and theorize over what they could've had her doing! Our lives would've been 10x easier if it was just in the movie so there was none of that.

As you can read above Alan Taylor kind've insisted that it was for a potential opening shot to the movie which REALLY makes me think what it could've been. Off the top of my head I'm going to assume it was some sort of shot of her memorializing Tony which would've CONFIRMED that Tony actually did, in fact, get shot in Holsten's diner. I envision her maybe talking at Tony's grave about his life like when they first met, etc before flashing all the way back for the movie to begin. Kind've like the super Italian version of Forrest Gump talking to Jenny's grave. Maybe mention Silvio, Paulie, and apparently most importantly Dickie Moltisanti then BOOM the Many Saints of Newark logo pops up.

That's what I have in my head and frankly I think it's a pretty friggen good idea. I'm gonna go with that's what it was in my brain until they inevitably release Edie Falco's scenes behind a paywall. Please send me any other ideas you may have on this. Thank you!
