Qatar Is Apparently Trying To Entice People To Come To The World Cup By Tripling The Amount Of Bars And Adding Two Party Boats
[The Sun] - According to The Times, Qatar want to greet fans from across the world 'western-style'.
And that includes securing big musical acts such as Lady Gaga, Abba, Andrea Bocelli and Aerosmith. The musical A-listers are all signed by Universal, who have a partnership with Fifa.
The report also states that the emir has ordered the country to triple the number of bars for foreigners.
And footy fans could find themselves housed in two party boats in a newly constructed port.
This is great and all but there's still no question Qatar hosting the World Cup is the dumbest thing in quite some time. The fact it's being played in the fall/winter, the fact that it's fucking Qatar, the alleged bribery and that's before all the political stuff. I get that soccer is the world's sport, but let's put it in places that matter and places where we can keep it the same. The World Cup should only be played in the summer every four years. Pretty basic rule to live by here. If a country can't host it during the summer, they are out.
I also love the list of artists playing here. Yeah Lady Gaga is massive and everyone knows Aerosmith. But Abba? This Abba?
Come on. That's going to get people jazzed up to go to Qatar? I don't think so. The best World Cup theme song by the way is still this.
Now back to Qatar here. The boat idea? Sounds good on paper until you realize you're staying on a boat with 6,000 people. No thank you. I get that it's no different than a hotel, but there's something about staying on boat that just sounds uneasy to me. Those rooms have gotta be smaller than a NYC hotel room. Oh and the tripling of bars? Awesome … until you remember this.
According to Qatari law, it is an offence to be drunk in public, or to drink in public places.
The drinking age in the country is 21, and The Times' report says the laws are unlikely to change for the tournament.
It is best advised for football fans to stay within the designated zones to try and avoid any complications.
Good luck keeping SOCCER FANS sober in public. I'm sure no one will be drinking the stadium or show up drunk. The English hate beer. The Germans hate beer. US fans hate all alcohol. Everyone will 100% be completely sober and never drink in public. Sounds like a blast. Dumbest World Cup ever.
Until US wins
