Time Magazine Named Shohei Ohtani As One Of The Most 100 Influential People Of 2021

Another day, another thing that Shohei Ohtani has done that Babe Ruth hasn't. He's a few weeks away from probably winning the AL MVP award and yesterday he got named to one of the most prestigious honors in the country, Time Magazine's 100 Most Influential People Of The Year list. Only the second baseball player ever to make the list as well, Chien-Ming Wang made it back in 2007. On top of his unreal season where he has 44 homers and a 3.36 ERA Ohtani was listed under the "Icons" section of the Time with some other famous people like Dolly Parton, Naomi Osaka, and Britney Spears. People think of him as just a super talented baseball player but if you look at the bigger scope of it he's a superstar and an actual icon. There are a handful of athletes on the list, but the fact that Ohtani made it just speaks to what a special talent he is. Alex Rodriguez wrote the profile for Ohtani and absolutely nailed it. He said Ohtani "has the power of Bryce Harper, the pitching of Max Scherzer and the speed of Trea Turner", and he's not wrong. I love seeing all the hype and praise for Ohtani because he deserves it all, a guy doing groundbreaking stuff in a game that has been around forever. It's just one of the few honors that Ohtani is going to add to his resume in the next couple weeks.
