Portland State Coach Bruce Barnum Says He'll Buy Beer for Every Fan That Attends the Vikings' Game This Week

When you're an FCS team in a state with a big-time program like the Oregon Ducks, you have to pull out all the stops to get fans into the stadium on Saturdays. So Portland State coach Bruce Barnum is willing to get out his checkbook and pay for as many beers as it takes to fill the Vikings' stands this weekend.

The Oregonian — “I’ve got a deal for you,” Barnum announced, “anybody who heard me on your show... just say ‘I heard Barney on the BFT’ at the Barney Beer Garden and I’ll buy your beer.

“I’m not buying your ticket, but I’ll buy your beer.”

How many beers?

Said Barney: “All of them.”

I don't know what a beer at a Portland State game costs, but general admission tickets are $10 according to The Oregonian. So at a maximum, two beers makes you your money back. And if this coach is really about it like he says he is, it may be worth a Saturday afternoon to just go drink for free with the boys at the game. You can see every other game you want to see on your phone, anyway.

Good for Barney. Instead of getting up at his Monday media availability and telling his own fans how they need to do better in spending their money to come to games like some of these Power Five coaches, he's doing something about it. Come to the ballgame and you can drink on the house.
