Rejoice, IndyCar Fans! We're Heading Back To Iowa

IndyCar dropped this news on Tuesday afternoon.

It looks like after a year hiatus away from the Iowa Speedway the series will be hopefully returning back to Iowa again starting in 2022. It's been a fan-favorite since the series started racing there in 2007, and the disappointment about not being able to be there in 2021 was felt big time. Again, the momentum for IndyCar continues to stockpile. Adding another race, at a fan-favorite track, plus it's an oval AND it'll likely be under the lights? Sign me up.

I'm interested to see if it will in fact be under the lights, and where exactly it'll slide into next year's schedule - especially with the news about the extension with NBC Sports. Seems like a perfect opportunity to slide Iowa under the lights on a June or July Saturday evening on the big NBC. Fingers crossed. Plus, the series needs and wants more ovals. I definitely do. This season for example there's only four of the seventeen races are ovals and that's with two of them being a double-header at Texas. Ready to see the boys rev it up, let it fly, and turn left. Hopefully in the primetime next year in Iowa.

STORY UPDATE

Ohhhh helllll yes. It's official. Very exciting. Returning to the double-header format after a year off is perfect. And seeing the dates in late July makes me even happier especially after this year's month long hiatus after 4th of July's race at Mid-Ohio.

“With our strong connection to local communities and involvement in the state, we plan to host an event that will receive national attention and make Newton an annual destination for racing fans,” Randy Edeker, chairman, CEO and president of Hy-Vee, said in a release. “The weekend will be filled with multiple attractions and events that celebrate everything that is great about Iowa and NTT IndyCar Series racing.”

They're talking about a festival type atmosphere. So maybe an Iowa state fair or maybe even a little turn 3 Snake Pit type feel? Either way, sounds like a hell of a time, and I think we're all pumped that Iowa is back in the lineup for 2022.
