A Future Message To My Son: Please Don't Destroy My Ankles, Embarrass Me And Put It On Twitter Like Tyrese Maxey Did To His Dad
If you're a son who ever played basketball you know this feeling right here. The moment you finally beat your dad in 1-on-1 which likely results in your father retiring from ever playing again. It's a rite of passage that every person goes through who plays this beautiful game. Now, I don't care if you're an NBA player like Tyrese Maxey, there are some rules on how this goes about. It's a delicate experience that you have to address correctly. There are rules to when you finally beat your pops in basketball and I may force my son to read this when he turns 14 or 15.
1. Talk shit, but know when to stop.
2. Do NOT let anyone post the video and put it on Twitter
3. Offer him a revenge game, be prepared to catch an elbow to the dome
4. Know when the retirement is happening and don't press, offer to shoot around instead
I'm already fearing the day my son can beat me in basketball. He's 2, I got plenty of time, but this video just shot a shiver down my spine knowing it's going to happen. It's honestly probably a dad's best and worst nightmare. That and losing in golf for the first time. Just moments that there's a changing of the guard and you truly feel washed up.
Now, I know Tyrese Maxey is an NBA player and this isn't the first time he's beat his dad in one-on-one. But it's the first time I've seen a son just straight up shatter his dad's ankles, point at him and then it go viral on Twitter. I also know that Tyrese Maxey's father is so proud of him and all that good stuff. But this happens? You feel nothing but rage. No doubt when they got home he challenged him out to the driveway, where we all know real one-on-one games happen. So, to my son, please don't ever put me on Twitter when you beat me in basketball. This is a message to father and sons everywhere.
