Ranking All The Sketches From Season 2 Of 'I Think You Should Leave'

As a big fan of sketch comedy, I was really bummed out over the 10ish years as they have gone by the wayside. Sure, we have had SNL. But that has been on a reeeeeeal steep downhill slide for a long time now. We used to have competing shows like Human Giant, The Whitest Kids U Know (RIP Trevor Moore), Mad TV, Tim & Eric, Chapelle, Mr. Show, The State, Key & Peele. They're all long gone and we haven't really been left with much.

I don't know the reason why this has been the case. It might be because the audience for that content has shifted away from TV and more towards Youtube, tiktok and other mediums. None of those ever seem to have the same type of feel or value as a good ole fashion series, though. Enter Tim Robinson.

I was only really familiar with Tim Robinson via commercials for Detroiters, which I hadn't watched. When 'I Think You Should Leave dropped in 2019, I had no interest because of Netflix's then sketchy track record with originals. I saw people tweeting about how much they loved it, though, so I have it a try. Ho-lee shit. That first season fucking killed me. This lead to me watching Detroiters, which I now really like, and his episode of "The Characters" which was very funny. If you feel the same way about SNL that I do, Robinson should be a guy that you love. He took the traditional comedy path, becoming a cast member of the show in 2012 before they quickly moved him to being a writer. They apparently didn't mesh with his humor, because they rejected a lot of his sketch ideas and Robinson left in 2014. Not only did Robinson later use those sketch ideas for I Think You Should Leave, but he also used underutilized cast members from SNL (Cecily Strong Vanessa Bayer, Mike O'Brien) as well.

I loved season 1 and season 2 was extremely funny as well. While I was tweeting about it the other day, I figured why not bring my love for this show over to the blog? So here is my definitive ranking of Season 2's sketches.

Note: I counted the hot dog+hot dog vacuum as the same sketch, but the little buff boys continuation as separate

MEH TIER

#25. Little Buff Boys Gym (Ep 5): This was a continuation of the Buff Boys skit, which was actually good. This skit, though, was just not great. Even connected to it's mother skit, it just didn't offer a ton.

#24. The Boardroom Surfer (Ep 6): This one was a little too long and the core premise was a little dumb. That said, the idea of "Chode Jeans" was laugh out loud funny as hell. "50 inch waist, 14 inch length, fucking junnnnnk".

#23. The Alien Restaurant (Ep 5): Tim Heidecker is extremely funny and I really liked his jazz skit from season 1. I don't think this one is as strong, but the I did really loved the concept of the standing invite to drink puke at the radio show. "Trips to Florida" being repeated over and over was also great.

#22. Credit Card Roulette (Ep 5): This was a good idea with a just-ok execution. The 'FUCK! I SHOULD HAVE LIEEEEEEED" saves it from being put lower.

#21. Earing Piercing Video (Ep 6): This was definitly a little darker than the rest of the sketches, but still very funny. That weirdo old guy talking about how the Claires employee was insuring that nobody can hear the splashes was so good.

GOOD TIER

#20. Detective Crashmore (Ep 3): I still kind of go back and forth on this one. The first time I watched it, I thought it was very funny and thought it was one of the funnier skits of the show. After I watched the show a few more times, though, I liked it less. It is still extremely funny, though. The lines and the delivery from the Crashmore actor fucking kill me. Describing the gun, threatening to walk out, The cosmic gumbo, talking about his rate and how he has seen every dick on the planet. Also a sneaky very funny part of that skit was when the police captain has to repeat "You don't care who is in your way do you" just for Crashmore to say "Not Really!"

#19. I'm Gonna Eat Your Burger (Ep 3): This one is very funny for the same reason the Ford Focus group one from the first season was: It features a randomly hilarious older actor that Tim Robinson pulled off the street. The old guy who played the professor in this skit was hysterical with his delivery of lines that old people just don't say, like "You aren't going to tell people that I housed Dylan's burger". That, the physical acting in how he ate the burger, asking for the video of them killing the president, and the final punchline absolutely kill me.

#18. Blues Brothers Dance (Ep 4): I liked this one a lot because #1 it features Conner O'Malley who I find endlessly funny and #2 something as random as the Blues Brothers dance. I think we have all been stuck in an awkward spot with couples fighting like that, and we have definitly all had a friend whose significant other has SUCKED. Him refusing to stop the dance, O'Malley insisting that the dog is doing the right thing by protecting the house, and Tim removing his sunglasses to reveal he is is tears is so good. Another sneaky funny part is when the one guy goes "The dog probably smells my dog".

#17. The Mafia Play (Ep 4): Former LCB Interviewee and friend of the pod Paul Walter Hauser is so god damn good in this skit. First off, I will always ride with any comedic device that works off of the "My wife" bit. Combine that with a mafia play, the name "Jamie Taco" and PWH's delivery and you got a great skit on your hands.

#16. Classic Cars (Ep 2): First off, shoutout to Bob Odenkirk who is on the mend from his heart issue. This skit got me in a few ways. The way Odenkirk pronounced "Ice Cream Stores" was weirdly hilarious, but his exponentially increasing web of lies got funnier with each line. "Triples is best!"

#15. Doppelgänger Pooper (Ep 6): This, to me, is classic Tim Robinson. Just a dumb, but hilarious idea that uses a bit of toilet humor to get it going. I love his indignant delivery of the prank, the coworkers confused reaction, and some of the other small things that made this hilarious. "Dave, you're not Tom. It was just Jerry running around the house sniffin panties". Selling his bike stand on facebook marketplace, and asking to "Go home, be by himself, try new restaurants" really got me.

GREAT TIER

#14. Little Buff Boys (Ep 1): I'm assuming that this was the plan, but I took Sam Richardsons character in this to be the same one from his Baby of the Year skit from the last season. While not as funny as that skit, this one still rules. The concept was so uncomfortable for the crowd and the boss, and Richardson's description of the kids (carved ham, brick shithouse, etc.) was so good. And lastly, his back and forth about the goose suits got me so bad.

#13. Tammy Craps (Ep 6): The doll itself was already so dumb, but the description of the disgruntled employee's issue with the contracts, the poison and the random Macanudo cigar bit made this so great. What made it even better, though, was the main kid actress in this. I only recently realized that this was the scene-stealing actress from "Once Upon A Time In Hollywood".

#12. I Don't Know How To Drive (Ep 5): I like skits/bits that take phrases we don't think twice about, like "Don't you know how to drive" and turn them into something funny. The random guy was a phenomenal screamer, and was a perfect straight man against Robinson's ridiculousness. Robinson's reactions, screaming, hypothetical job interview bit, and the general quickness of the skit put it this close to the top for me.

#11. Shark Tank (Ep 2): I tweeted this before, but Patti Harrison absolutely kills me. Her twist on shark tank the general idea of her being sewn into the Charlie brown is so funny, and her delivery of lines like "I'm scared about how much I need wine now", "And popcornnnnn" and "Every time i see a bald boy, I think I'm back in the pants" are incredible.

#10. Hot Dog + Vacuum (Ep 1+3): The first half of this was the opening skit of the season and I loved it. "You can't….push lunch!" and almost tripping on the backpack were great, but the Carber Reputation Vacuum elevates this to the top 10. "People ask what made me make this, I tell them that I can't talk about it without crying". His description and skepticism of why he got fired is just too funny not to put near the top.

#9. Corn Cob TV (Ep 1): Coffin Flop may have gotten the loudest audible laugh out of me on the first watch of season 2. The quick cuts of the bodies flying out (some of them very much nude) was so funny, and Robinson's straight-into-crazy delivery was hilarious as always. My favorite lines include "Spectrum thinks I'm just some duuuuuumb hick. They said that to me at a dinner". "I didn't rig shit! I didn't fuckin' do this!" "People are really mad at me because I showed a bunch of naked dead bodies with their spread blue butts flying out of boxes? Really???".

#8. The Haunted House Tour (Ep 1): Some of ITYSL skits are funny cause of concept, and some come down to delivery. This is the latter. Robinson's absolute insistence on using absurd swear words to the point of crying absolutely killed me. Specifically the delivery of "I'm not trying to get a laugh, but do any of these……fuckers…." I think was expertly done.

#7. Dan Flashes (Ep 2): Dan flashes might be the most absurd one of these season, but that might be why it's one of the best. The entire boardrooms straight delivery vs Robinson describing the shirts and shopping experience at Dan Flashes while also screaming at doug to shut the fuck up and calling him a skunk gets me every time when I see this skit.

#6. Johnny Carson CAN Hit (Ep 5): Celebrity impersonators are something that will always make me laugh. Whether is Nathan For You, Rediscovering America, or this, they're just funny. The concept of Stable of Stars and the idea that you can rent them for a lower price as long as they can hit people was a stroke of genius. Also, as a movie guy, the George Kennedy bit was particularly hilarious.

ELITE TIER

#5. I USED To Be A Piece Of Shit (Ep 2): Slicked back vs pushed back, sloppy steaks at Trufonis, Chicken Spaghetti at Chickalini's. There is so much that makes this one of the best skits in the season. In fact, I'd say Sloppy Steaks was the single biggest takeaway phrase from the whole season. LETS SLOP 'EM UP!!!!!!

#4. Calico Cut Pants (Ep 4): I'm not sure, but this might be the single longest skit of the series and it is extremely funny. The concept of the website, Robinsons pitch to give, his story with his wife eating batteries, and screaming "HOLD THAT DOOR!!!!" are amazing, and the site volume bit with Mike The Rock Davis was also hilarious. Mike O’Brien was phenomenal straight man against Robinson, and delivered on of my favorite videos of the skit in "Don't send me videos of loud wrestlers!" Also, once again, the inclusion of Conor O'Malley makes elevates what was already a very funny skit.

#3. Courtroom Hat (Ep 3): After my first watch of the season, this was my favorite skit. Everything about it is fucking hysterical. The reading leading into "Did you see Brian's hat?" and the zoom on Robinson in the crowd instantly got a laugh. The description of him with the dice in his pocket and then the board meeting where he rolls the hat down his arm like Fred Astaire fucking kill me. When they move on from the first part of the text transcript and go back to them talking about the hat and cut to Robinson going "What the hellllll". I'm laughing just thinking about it!

#2. Drivers Ed (Ep 6): This one is basically perfect on every level. Robinson's delivery, Harrison's delivery and the kids. The slow burn of the joke with all roads leading to us discovering the actual nature of the Table Lady's job was just perfection. "But what is her job? TAAAAAYYBUHHHHLS!"

#1. Karl Havoc (Ep 1): Ep 1 was super strong between the hot dog skit, Corn Cob TV and Karl Havoc. At first, I didn't know what to expect. The first appearance of the Karl costume in the mall absolutely killed me dead. Move on to the opening line of "There's to much fucking shit on me" and it only gets better from there. It's a perfect skit with a phenomenal execution AND ending. "So what's the show?"
